The other day I got thinking, I do not know what made me start thinking this...
But I read somewhere (and always knew) that the life expectancy of Great Danes were about 7 to 8 years with not unheard of cases living up to 17 years (very RARE!). Well, mine have hit 6 years and 7 years old respectively. (Roman the Grey one is 7, Tank the black one (my boy and everyones' favorite) is 6 years old.
I guess I'm on borrowed time and I truly have no clue what I would do if I were to lose one of them. I'll admit it, just thinking of losing one, makes me want to lose it, and I get more depressed. Damned, there I go again. WTF!??
I get these random thoughts during the day that one day I won't have them and how hurt I'll be. Can't shake the thoughts at times. Very frustrating to say the least. Anyways, here are some pics, since we have a lot of dog lovers here on the board...

Going into pet ownership, you know that's the deal. They just don't live as long as people on average.
However, think about the life the dogs had. They could have spent their entire XX number of years with some abusive family, or in a dog pound and then euthanised, or in the streets.
Instead, they spent their lives living well with a family that cares for them.
The dogs aren't sitting around feeling depressed about their situation, no need for you to either. As long as they keep getting treats and snausages and stuff like that, they aren't counting the days.

What awesome dogs! Thank you for posting their pics.
Like Cesspool said, they're loving you as much as you're loving them so just appreciate and enjoy them like you have been. And don't worry, even if they leave this world before you, you'll see them again someday.
I agree with cesspool. I have thought the same thing about my dog who turn 7 a month ago. If they lived a good, happy, loved life then they had it great. Its all a matter of what you choose to focus on. Focus on what a great life you gave them and how lucky you both are to have shared this time together. Ahh, shit. I think that might not help.
It does upset me thinking about it, our pets were so attached to, especially our min pin, she's my baby and she's 7 now. If anything were to happen I don't know if I could get another dog and go through that again. I would kill someone if they laid a finger on her.
It is hard to understand or sometimes let go when you lose a pet. I have lost so many dogs over the yrs and everytime my wife says no more. Then I bring home another puppy and the love affair starts all over. I have a 7 yr old German Sheperd that is having some problems now. Once in awhile he feels good and jumps up and starts barking and it seems to make him smile. The hairy bastard still has some attitude left.

I've got a treat for all of your dogs Richie. I'll post a picture up tomorrow. I saw these things at Walgreens and thought about your monsters.

good looking dogs, looks like you take good care of them. Mine past away last year because she got attacked by a swarm of hornets. When I came home she was lying in the back yard swelled up like a medicine ball while there was still about 100 hornets feasting on her. First time I really cried like a school girl
Gerald, our Great Dane is the same coloring as your lighter, two tone one. She's our second one in that color. Blue Merle, I believe it's called. Our daughter's tiny Yorkshire terrier chases the big dog around.

They're such big pussies aren't they? Just a HUUGE lap dog. All they want is love. And they just want to love you back just as much. I think with their huge size everything they do from sitting to smiling is amplified a hundred times.. Especially when they REST their head on the countertops to look DOWN at the food that's placed on it. Try and imagine that for a second. (Yup I said counter top)
I'll post some more pics 2morrow. Yeah, I'm a dog freak, stfu Chuck.
Loosing my Dobe's is one of the hardest FUCKING THINGS...PERIOD. Like a death in the family. (Elvis and Nitro).....Vet told me that the Dobe's and similar types jus don't live that long. Esp. giving the more pure the bloodlines.
I agree w/GC. I was depressed, then I said "Well, thats why God created more"..
