Well, saturday night I got a call from a friend telling me that my ex-girlfriend was in a horrible accident. He tells me that she was being life-flighted to a hospital about forty minutes away.
I get to said hospital and find that she is doing okay, considering what had happened. Only a broken wrist, whiplash, stiches in her hand, and various cuts and bruises. She is lucky, but I had no idea how lucky she was until i saw the car.
Her parents asked if I would pull some of her belongings out of the car for her, and this is what I saw:
All I can say is that I am happy she is alive. Even though she is my ex, I still love the girl and it damn near tore my world apart when i got that call. To my surprise, I called her parents and they had no idea what had happened. Apparently the police were taking their sweet ass time calling the next of kin that night.
No, onto what had happened.
She was on her way home from a friends house at roughly two in the morning when a 19 y/o kid slammed into the rear of her car at a high rate of speed. She was going 55-60, and from the police report, he was going between 80-100. He was going to pass her, but apparently for got to do that, and hit her. She went into a ditch, rolled a couple of times, and ended up going through a fence and into a field. She was able to climb out of the car, and got away.
She is okay, but sore. All I can say is that drunk drivers need to have a bullet in the head...

Looking at that wreckage certainly does make you think.
I'm guessing the drunk came out reletively unharmed......as they alway seem to do.
Yeah, he had a bump on the head, and a broken nose. The police officer that was at the scene followed the ambulance that he was taken away in to the hospital. As soon as he was discharged, he arrested the kid. I am ready to beat the hell out of the kid.

I've never understood how drunks or even just the driver of the vehicle walk away, we've had head on accidents here where all occupants of the other vehicle are dead, occupants in drunk vehicle are dead yet the drunk driver walks away with a few cuts and bruises. Or another one years ago where 9 kids packed in a little hatch back Civic, driver lost control at 90 over a hill and creamed head on into a vehicle heading opposite way. I forget how many died and were thrown from the vehicle and I know one 2 survived but one is a quadriplegic and other all scarred up. But the driver pretty much walked away from that impact.

I've never figured that out....
I have heard that it is because they don't tense up before impact.
DAmn Tim, that is just horrible. How the hell did she crawl from that? She is a tough little shit isn't she. Hope she has a speedy recovery and wish her well from me. Ed
Yeah, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing some stiffer penalties for people who drive drunk.
Having been on the receiving end of a drunk driver I'd prefer they pay restitution to the victims, for the rest of their life if necessary. Jail time doesn't do the victims a damn bit of good.
I'm glad she's okay too and you're a great friend to help her and her parents out.
I was ass-ended by a drunk driver when I was in high school. I was the last of three cars waiting to make a left turn and he never even hit his brakes. Unfortunately, he was a lawyer in the small city I grew up in and to the best of my knowledge, he was never cited and nothing ever happened to him except for his insurance paying for the damages to my car. He wreaked of booze and although both myself and my friend (passenger) asked the cop who responded to give him a field sobriety test, it never happened and he was allowed to leave. Keep in mind this was around 1980 though and things were different then.

Jesus, Spray! That's just so wrong. I'm so sorry to hear that. There is just no logic to or explaining these things.
