Building a house in texas (odessa area)

Just tossing up ideas, but I was thinking about building a small house on my property out there. Its a 10 acre parcel directly off the Road (FM 1053) just south of a small town called Imperial. Nothing special, 2-3K sq feet with a 1 or 2 car garage. Public water is about 1/4 mile away and power is on site. Thoughts? Costs?

Here is a picture of the Road in front of my property.

When the biggest deal going in a town is high school football you might weant to consider what civilization means to you.

Also in a place like that you'll have to have all of your Kosher items Fed Exed in.

So are you moving out here or is this going to be a second home? And how did you come across land in this area when you live in MD?

Houses are running about $115-$120 a foot to build here. Of course that is standard building, you can spend alot more. Be sure you give us West Tx guys a shout when you get down here.

Wow, markets must still be good there. I am able to build houses for my customers for $80 sq ' all day. I have many hungry subs looking for work. Great time to build here if you can get the banks to loan the money.

not moving out there anytime in the near (or far) future... Just thinking about a second home.

Not sure if I will ever do anything with the property, but last week I also got a letter from an oil company wanting to do seismic testing on my property to map any mineral deposits on my property. Royalties anyone? lol, we will see.

Be careful what you sign , there are a ton of scammers out there when it comes to the oil and gas business.

agreed! All the papers I signed were for 2 weeks of seismic (ground penetrating radar) testing. no drilling or such. They are paying me $100 too.
