Finally bought a dog, but not a german shepherd

I went back and forth on what type of dog to get. In the end, I went with a dog I had never heard of till this search got started. I ended up going with a Cane Corso. It's a mastiff breed. The males run about 110-130lbs, females around 90-110. I think this dog will work perfect for what I want. The face of these dogs will put the fear into most people. They are very muscular and give off a very mean look. They socialize well and hardly ever bark. They're easy to train and ungodly loyal. I'm going to get a pup so I can break her into my unique situation with the race track at an early age.

Here she is at 5 weeks:

I'll pick her up in 3 weeks, she'll be 10 weeks old at that point. This is what she'll look like:

It's an ugly dog, but that's why I like her. I got a female since I have a 2 year old lab via the girlfriend. I can't wait to get this little thing home and start working with her.

They are great dogs, you will love her.

I personally think they look better without the cropped ears, but that is your choice.

Agreed. The cropped ears makes it look like a wannabe pitbull or something. Get ready from some awesome gas attacks.

Great looking dog.

Kind of look like huge pit bulls.

Ever seen a Presa Canario?

I've been told by breeders that their ears are SUPER sensitive and that is the reason for cropping. These dogs literally don't feel pain in their bodies, just the ears. I agree they look better with flops for ears, but if it's going to be painful for them, I'd rather not. The heads on these things are insane. Putting a mastif size head on a dog gives it such a cool look. The breed is technically called an italian mastif.

I cannot fathom why anyone would want a presa other than to bee a wanna be thug with the "baddest" dog out there. It's an abomination of a breed, the real breed died out in the 70's, everything currently called a presa is a recreation.

They are incredibly unstable. Breeds need generations and generations to get the crap bred out of them so they don't end up killing your children. 10 years of cross breeding pitbulls and mastiff types does not qualify.

Technically they call them sicilian mastiffs as there is another italian mastiff in the neapolitan mastiff.

All these dogs are prone to ear infections, but the ear sensitivity thing is BS. Cropping may help with ear infections but proper care and cleaning go a long way. I would not crop the ears.

Here is my bull. He is 9 1/2 years old (145 pounds) and starting to feel his age a little. I would get another in a heatbeat.

keep a lookout on her left eye. not sure if it was just the way the eye was looking when the pic was taken or if its a problem with the corner of her eye.

Here mom nicked her by accident as a baby. She's been stitched. I spoke with the vet and he says it poses no problem to the dog. The breeder has agreed to take care of any costs (I have it in writing) should it become an issue during her life. Something like that might keep her from being shown, but I have zero desire to show a dog.

I'll check into the ear cropping. There aren't a lot of vets around with experience with this breed. Not where I live anyways. I think they look better with flops for sure.

I have never heard about the breed dying off. I don't know much about them other than they are the Spanish Mastiff and can get up to around 200lbs. I only know one guy that has one and it is a great dog, but other than that I have very little knowledge about them.

DOn't know much about the Corso. Just know they are big.

I do know that both of these dogs get mistaken for pit bulls...Kind of hard to confuse the two IMO

Great looking dog. Don't crop the ears...be a good owner and just watch the ears for infections instead.
