Okay, so its a beautiful day here in south Texas, 80 degrees sunny slight breeze, in other words almost perfect. So I take my daughter, who is 3, to the golf course to hit some balls at lunch time. We are the only ones around the chipping green for like 30 minutes. As my daughter is getting a couple balls off the green this old man walks up and gets a few balls outta the bucket around the chipping green and I proceed to call for my daughter so he can chip without hitting her. Well he proceeds to tell me, in a shitty tone, its not safe for her to be on the green because she could get hit by a ball, so i said, in just a shitty tone, not by me she won't and since we were the only ones here I think she's pretty safe. So he proceeds to tell me "well I would rather her not be here while I'm chipping, could you take her somewhere else". That pretty much did it for me but instead of getting pissed I simply said "I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request."....then I paused for a second and said,"that means no". His face was priceless. And yes its from Pirates of the Carribbean. After he realized it was an attempted insult against his intelligence, and a smart ass remark, he got pissed. But by then I had my daughter in tow and we went to the putting green. I just dont understand why some, not all, old people think they own the world and should have everyone bendover backwards to suit there needs or wants.
Well I've bitched enough. Thanks for letting me vent.

I'll stretch here just to offer an alternative position (like VP) and to stick my head in a meat grinder. I've got an 8 year old daughter, so I do have some insight.
I'll guess that children aren't allowed on the chipping green (or any other practice greens). Nothing excuses a shitty attitude (especially when his request could have easily been made "pleasantly" with concern for your child. Nonetheless, he was likely pissed that he was forced to say ANYTHING since he probably wanted to just go and chip. Seeing a child playing on the green probably forced a grouchy old fella to be "social".

Actually she wasnt playing like a 3 year old normally does. She was putting with her club. I cant say she was practicing because she's 3 but she wasnt just running around "playing". And as he walked up I had already called her to come to me. So he wasnt waiting for her to move at all, by the time he dropped his balls to chip she was by me, I felt he was just trying to be a dick. But as VP said that was my perception.
