I'm considering setting up a branch office for my company and its going to be in Naples, FL. My family and I are thinking about moving down from Victoria, BC late this summer and I was hoping someone living down there could give me an idea about the following:
1.) medical insurance: what would a family of three look at paying per month?
2.) car insurance: we'd be getting an SUV down there, and I'll have the Viper, of course. What would the damage be per year?
3.) property taxes on a $550K(ish) house in Naples?
I've got the visa thing all looked after. We're just trying to get an idea about just how expensive it is to live down there compared to up here.
Thanks a lot!

Naples was the first city in Florida to feel the recession. It is also the first city in Florida where prices have stabilized and are starting to slowly climb. Yesterday I received this report from a Regions Bank VP in Naples. I will send you my phone number and have all the figures you will need to make a decision when you call.
Naples was the first to feel the recession because of overbuilding and proximity of paths of Hurricane Charlie (2004) Hurricane Wilma (2005) and Hurricane Katrina (2005) that dampered the enthusiasm to live in this area. The severe impacts, particularly to Punta Gorda on the Gulf Coast, were all over the national news. Then came the overall housing downturn and this area was again hit hard due to still having excess inventory and this being an area with a lot of second home discretionary purchasers, not people who live and work in the area and need to buy.
Naples is a beautiful city and last I looked there were a lot of real estate bargains to be had. One big question you did not ask is the cost of property (real estate) insurance. This will come with a sizeable hurricane deductable and the cost will vary with proximity to the coast. All of Naples will be pretty pricey. Hurricane impacts will impact your car insurance rates also, but not all that much.

I can tell you from experience that medical insurance with good coverage for a family will cost $1200- $1800. Those who receive it for free or subsidized threw their employer don't know how lucky they are.
Best of luck with the move.
Well, I am not all too familiar with that area of Florida, but I have visited and it is really nice.
For a reference point, today in Jacksonville it was in the 80's and sunny all day. In Florida it's alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll llllllllllllll GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
