The cops really aren't fucking around with this stuff anymore.
There was a guy on the MB forum who used to post his street racing stories. He was racing a guy in a Mustang and they both hit a car as it turned in front of them. Vehicular manslaughter? Negligent homcide? Nope - MURDER. That's just the criminal side - he'll lose everything on the civil side as well.
Then there's Hogan's kid - that's gonna have a major negative impact on his lifestyle and money as well as his kid's.
They just don't tolerate it anymore, and IMO for good reason. I remember at VOI5 when we were on the poker run. There was a group of 20 Vipers heading back from the Valley of Fire into Vegas. I don't think we went *under* 100mph the whole time, and we were in traffic cutting in and out.
In retrospect stupid, and dangerous not only for the immediate risk to car and life, but the long-term risks to your bank account and freedom from the pokey!
lets see, couches on the sidewalk to watch the street drags, unicycles for half time entertainment, felony evade from a cop, oh to be 19 again.
No shit huh, used to be soo much fun on a fri-sat night. I remember the spot getting busted and I was stuck in there, cop walked up to me with his maglight and shined it in my face, I had one also so I shined it in his face. I Ended up cuffed in the back of the car for 30 minutes and never saw my maglight again.

The thing that kills me is that development is closing dragstrips all over the country. "Take it to the track!" I always hear. What do we do when there is no more tracks?
The nearest 1/8 mile is an hour away, the nearest 1/4 is 3 hours away. Fortunately, Lowes Motor Speedway is bring me a NHRA track that will only be a 30 minute drive. Unfortunately, it'll mean bringing my junk up to SFI specs and meeting the rules set for a (projected) 9.99 or faster car. $$$

At our local cruise hangout (more so a street racing staging point up until about 2 years ago), we were regularly spotlighted by a police helicopter on Friday and Saturday nights. One day, a guy in a 3rd gen purple IROC got the bright idea to shine one of those cig lighter spotlights (1,000,000cp I think) back at it.
The chopper locked its light on the IROC, and ten minutes later fourteen cruisers showed up. He was cuffed, arrested, car towed and they gave everyone else loitering tickets.
Yep. But let's not stop there. Let's give spectator tickets to all the people in bars, restaurants and sporting events too since they are there watching people get drunk and drive home.
Just think of the revenue. We can use it for the children.
But wait, drunk driving isn't as big of problem as street racing.

Fantastic rebuttal. You should be a Lawyer. I would pay money to watch your trials.

Indeed ..back in the 60's we used to drag race on the north side of the GM Proving Grounds. One of my first trips there the cops pulled up-and parked - to watch the racing ! Of course we were lucky to crack 90 mph back then.
