I'm looking to ditch out and move south. I'm sick of the cold ass winters and I want a damn beach. What's some good coastal areas? I know the southern-facing cape's get all fucked in a hurricane. I called to a couple realtors but they keep sending me shit I didn't want. Any idea's?

I spent a few weeks in the south west corner of the state, it really is beautiful country. Rolling hills, perfect roads, no cops and a lot of horse farms.
Plus you could always drive to the beach. I am not partial to beach living, what with the wind and the sand and the cocktails with little straw hats.
I live in the center of the state, burlington. I'm 2h from beach and 2h from mountains. I never go to either haha. It's a good place to live climate wise. We're far enough inland we don't get hit bad if a hurricane comes in. Snow is rare. Can't offer much help in the beach area. Houses are very cheap where I'm at.
I'm looking to live within an hour drive from the beach. I've looked into the Goldboro (sp?) area. I prolly won't move till next spring, but I'd like to consider my options, you know?
I am a big fan of the Outer Banks - laid back, good eats, good beaches, nice year round folks, etc. they do get hammered with hurricanes, but the sound side is pretty nice. I spend a week at Nag's Head every year and there is a nice golf community there - soundside with nice private beach access.

And what is there to do for work there during the winter?
Hmm, this is all sounds pretty good. However I will have sell alot of my crap; I have some unmentionable debts (Fuck You Uncle Sam!). However, I *should* be able to keep the Audi and the ford. To be honest, I don't really care what I drive as long as it's not a Honda/Kia/Hyundai. I am a laid back person, and visited So Carol back in 2000 with the army. I hated it, but I think it had to do more with the fact I HAD to be there. Thanks for the input guys. i appreciate it.

I'm just a poor bum. Can you spare a few bucks for some booze?
I have friends in the Carolinas (north and south, and one lives on the beach), I don't know if thats the place I'd go to if I want to get away from the cold....their still cold as fuck durring winter and although theres a beach it has some damn icy cold water. I surfed up there before, damn near froze my nutz off even with a wet suit.
I'd say South FL, but thats just me, I want a beach and also water I can go into and relax, any water colder then south FL is freezing to me lol. As far as cost, it's really gone up in the Carolinas, used to be a lot cheaper but with the max exodus of people comming to that area over the years, cost is not much off what South FL is like. Beachfront property however is still a bargain up there, go figure.
