A quick question for the legal minds on here.............
So a friend of mine has quite the lead foot and he has racked up a bunch of tickets. He is 17 with a provisional license in NJ. He is a perfect example of a teen that shouldn't have a fast car.
Anyway, in NJ, if you get 6 points on a provisional license, your license will get suspended. On a basic driver's license, it is 12 points. Now Vette boy is awaiting court for:
-Speeding 80 in a 45 - 5 Points
-Changing lanes without a signal - 2 Points
-Speeding 87 in a 50 - 5 Points
-Unsafe Lane Change - 2 Points
-Loud Muffler - No points
-No Front Plate - No points
Now the thing is, he is turning 18 this Sunday. All of his court dates are after he will be 18 and transfer his license to a basic driver's license. Now if he gets the tickets knocked down to something like 8 points or so, will he still get his license taken away since he had a provisional at the time of the incident (6 Points allowed) or will he be fine since the points will be processed at a time that he has a regular license? (12 Points allowed)
I don't know the laws there but my guess would be that he won't get off just by the luck of turning 18 when the court dates come around.
That being said, I know he is your buddy but it sounds to me like he should be losing his license to hopefully teach him a lesson.
80 in a 45, 87 in a 50? That sort of shit when 17 years old can end up killing someone.
There is NO way a 17 year old has the experience to react quickly if some kid or a biker or something came out from a sidestreet or a blind spot.
He needs a big wake up call before he ends up with a wake up call like the Hogan family is about to experience. I know that is an extreme comparison but I bet Nick Bollea and Hulk Hogan didn't think that accident would happen either.

Oh trust me, I COMPLETELY agree with you. Like I said, he is a perfect example of why younger people shouldn't have fast cars. It would definitely be in his best interest to get his license taken away for a few months.

14 points... 2 over 12, which you stated to be the suspended license limit for over 18 years of age. It gets suspended either way. How would he get the points knocked down?
there is a statute avail to NJ drivers that lets ya pay to get out of trouble. you can pull this card twice in your lifetime. i dont remember what it was called but its like 99-01 , ask his lawyer, he will know it for sure.
basically you pay a lot more to NOT get the points. it can be used on any ticket. so obviously im saving it for a biggie.
he DOES have a lawyer right ? if not, he better get one fast.
Phil is right, it is called Soprano 99-don't talk smack about NJ or I will have to kill you or was that tax you? This state sucks, but I never heard of that either and God knows I literally lost my license more times than I can count before and that is a no shitter.
Well, now that I live in Florida that is good news! So, anyone want to tell me why I haven't blown the doors off that GTS of mine? Great law, I just pay a bunch of cash and get out of trouble... kind of reminds me of a divorce I once went through.
So if he pays an extra $500 buck or so...he will no longer be a dangerous driver? Fucking traffic tickets are simply designed to raise funds for the state. Excuse me while I go mount my new flat screen TV...now where did I leave the Glock?
You may have paid someone off, but you never paid a higher fine to eliminate points in NJ legally.

Like everyone said, if he either pays them down or his attorney gets them down a little bit, I am just wondering if he will still get his license taken away if he gets 6 or more points on his license.
Oh yes RD, you offered your help with vibration late last year for me and I appreciated the offer very much. If you ever get up here near the violent part, stop on by so I can rob and shoot you and I will buy some brew or whatever you drink on me. 856-486-1297 10-7Gary
