Greatest boxer maybe...greatest fighter NO WAY! Don't forget that Clay changed his name to Mohammed so he wouldn't have to fight...fuckin draft dodgin pussy!
Sugar Ray Robinson. Incomparable. Quite simply the finest fighter in history. Ray was a man who could do it all - fight while coming forward or backing up. He could both give and take a punch and his speed, accuracy, stamina and courage were amazing. What's more, he displayed all the aforementioned qualities whilst fighting opposition of the highest merit.. Even guys who were never champion in Robinson's day would more than likely become so today. Hell, even the journeymen were tough! And one last point - Ray, in over two hundred pro bouts, was never legitimately KO'd.
Oh, and I love the RAGING BULL himself, Jake La Motta (If anyone wants his rookie boxing card, I have it for sale)

Since we are talking Heavyweights I have to say Ali hands down. Joe during the tumultous 60's our countries attitude towards blacks was piss poor. On top of that Ali played on this and it increased his draw dramatically. On top of that he had style and he had grace. He fought Frazier 3 times and Ali won 2 of them. In Fraziers defense he beat the shit of Ali and broke his ribs. George Foreman use to knock people out fast. He had the most devastating punch and Ali whipped his ass real good.
Tyson was a bully.
Foreman had more power and class. He never even nibbled on anyones ear.
Lightweights I never saw ray Robinson but Sugar Ray Leonard was incredible and his Olympic victory is one many will never forget. Then his ass whipping of Duran, No Mas No Man

One you guys won't like but the guy was really great was Roberto Duran. Get beyond the "No Mas" stuff and watch the guy fight and he was maybe the best and certainly in the top ten all time.
Mike Tyson should'nt even be mentioned in the same breath as the all time legend's. He knocked alot of no name's out in the beginning of his career, and never was the same after Buster Douglas knocked his ass out. Evander Holyfield also kicked his ass in both fight's.
The Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran fight, damn that fight was AWESOME!!!!!! Watched it as a kid and have the program. One of the only fights I saw when I was young and what a dandy that was. I was 13, the only pro fight I ever saw with my Dad and it was one of the all time classic fights.
Duran was a great fighter and his first fight with Leonard was a great victory for Duran. Sugar Ray tried to fight Durans figth and had his ass kicked. The second fight was pure magic for Leonard. It was the tough bully against a precision puncher with lightning fast hands again and this time they fought Leonards fight. Ray took him apart. It has to be one of the 5 best all time fights.
I like them both and you have to give the nod to Ray. He had it all in & out of the ring.

Cobra which fight did you see 1 or 2?
I saw the 2nd fight in 1980. Was just a kid and had my Dad drag my ass to the fight, I had no idea who Duran was, but had watched Leonard when he fought in the 76 Olympics.

B.S. He DID NOT change his name to avoid the war!!!! If that were the case he would have dropped the religion as soon as the war was over. He is still a very active member of his religion, and he was simply standing for what he believed in. Going to war would have almost been easier then the crap he had to go through not going!!!!!
Ali is the greatest fighter of all time. Keep in mind we never saw Ali at his best. His best years were wasted with the whole not going to war thingy. Before his time off he was so fast he hardly ever got hit. When he came back, he was never that fast again. He was still extremely fast, but not as fast as he once was.
My second favorite fighter is "The Warrior", "The Real Deal" Evander Holyfield.
And my third favorite is Roy Jones. If you saw "The Chicken Wang" you'd be a fan too.
