Battle of the American Bad Boys. We will be testing the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 against the 2008 Chevy Z06 in a Top-Gear style shootout at Willow Springs in the next few weeks. What we want to know is who do you think will win and why? I know this is a Dodge community and most of you will go with the viper but please give the most elaborate reason as to why you think your choice should win.
Considering the Z06 got beat a majority of the time around a road course by the 2006 SRT, I see no reason the 2008 won't spank it, and its sup par chassis around. It has a better power/weight, better brakes, better suspension, a more rigid chassis...what more could you want?
A mediocre driver will be faster in the Z thanks to the electronic controls. They will drive blissfully around with the rotors glowing red from automatic corrections. In the Viper that same driver will be in the gravel or driving well off the cars limits.
A good driver(which I'm not one yet) will be far faster in the Viper. 100 extra horsepower doesn't hurt. The Viper has bigger tires on the back (345 vs 325), and stickier tires. It's not a fair fight. Put the same good driver in each car on the same day and no mods and it's a waste of time. Put a better driver in the Z and/or a bunch of mods and you can change the result. Mind you, put Manny in his Honda CRX and he can beat most drivers in the Z and the Viper.

Ive heard that the Z06's are supposed to get non run-flats[PS2's?] this year to go along with the tweaked suspension from last year. Should be a bit faster with the better rubber around a track. Will be an interesting test if they use the same driver[hopefully hes good] in both. I picking the Viper for this one but wouldnt be totally shocked if the Z06 won instead.
I'm thinking the Viper with 100 extra HP will win. Obviously not a fair race.
Now the Zr1 against the Viper, that is a dead even match, and as much as I love both cars I would say the ZR1 would take it.

It's more then HP Mike, in road racing tires, brakes, suspension geometry, a Quaiffe like rear end and aero among other things are the important factors. Nothing more important the the nut behind the wheel

I found out on Saturday that the ZR1 will have some sort of shocks that are electro charged to adjust to what the car is doing.
I'm thinking the brakes off the Enzo on the ZR1 should beat the Vipers.
I don't know much else about the rear on the ZR1, but I know it is something that is totally beefed up and redone for that particular car.
I would bet the ranch on the ZR1 killing the Viper, but I would rather still buy the Viper just because it is a rarity, and Woofus doesn't really care for the window in the hood of the ZR1, probably because he knows I would fuck with him and play peak a boo in it

The Zr1 has crazy expensive brakes, but the Vipers brakes have been extolled as being pretty much perfect in every way since they were released. They have the power to lock up a set of slicks and never ever seem to fade, so I don't know what can really be improved on. The Gen III Viper consistently generated shorter stopping distances than the Enzo as well. Make no mistake, the ACR is going to anally rape the ZR1 on the race track. I would bet the standard 08 Viper will be very close to the ZR1 on a track. The difference in power to weight is about the same as the GEN III to the Z06 and the Gen III beat the Z06 pretty often around the track. Also, the ZR1's supercharger is likely to heat soak.

Well regardless, it looks like we will end up having Alien vs Predator when the two finally go at it.
