I finally sat down today and opened all the envelopes that had been accumulating. I have a total of 32 W-2's. It looks like the firm sent me a set of 4 (one page) W-2's for each state I worked in.
Last year I had earned income in seven states (other then my home state), and payed local income tax to two additional municipalities(in two of the seven states). Along with my home state return and federal return that makes 11 returns that I have to file.
The worst part is that it seems like the majority of income earned in these states will be offset by exemptions, so it really is a waste of my paper and their time. It's not like I am rolling in it.
I better set about downloading the Non-Resident return forms for these states.
I was thinking about just taking all the crap-o-la to a local firm, but I wouldn't be able to do that without being embarrassed.
Thankfully, shabbatz (sp?) begins tomorrow, so my office shuts down at 3. I am going to need all the time I can get to read up on these filings.
Anyone else have anything to complain about? And don't you dare say you think you pay to much. That schtick is more tired then a 90 year old cripple with lung cancer.
Why would you be embarrased to take you shit to a pro and pay them $$$ to take care of. I have several gen partnerships/LLCs, etc. and for like $1000 a year I take them to the same guy I have used for 30 years and let them sort through the shit. They call me with a few questions, fill out all the forms, make out my quarterly estimated payment book and tab for me to sign. I write the fucking IRS check due at the time and mail off.
Like the commercial on the TV - You need to get some "peoples"!
Yes I have something to complain about - I hate the fucking IRS!
I write off fucking EVERYTHING I can, shit you cant imagine almost, and still always have to pay. Warren Buffet could wipe his ass with my income and flush it twice but uncle sam thinks its too much..? Horse. . . . . shit. . . . . WAR GROUNDHOG DAY NO SHADOW NO IRS FOR ONE YEAR

I've spent the last three years working for two different accounting firms. I am studying accounting, and will be sitting for the CPA exam this year.
Just blow it off and play the odds you won't get audited.
If you get caught just do like Steve Martin, go before the judge and just say:
WELL EXCUUUUUUUUSEE MEEEEEE!!!!!
Whether you make 1/10 of what I do or 1,000x more, we all feel like we pay too much. Well, except for those that pay nothing and still get a big refund due to earned income credit etc.
My large firm paid in 31 states for 2007 - yes, most exemptions, but just a ton of paperwork... The international stuff is the best - even if reciprocal - still 43.2 tons of forms...
And no - I don't touch any of that paperwork... I suggest you do the same...

Don't be a wuss !!!! I have been audited for 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 (05 still in limbo) ...I don't doubt they will look at 2006 and 2007. Maybe I shouldn't have called the "revenue agent" a BITCH
Actually, there was no name calling, but I did piss her off quite a few times not to mention kicking her ass after I took 00 and 01 to tax court.

I don't envy you the international returns.
The team I was working with had to go to Switzerland, so they restaffed me mid summer and I was a little bummed. Now, though, I am glad I didn't spend three weeks in another country.
I am going to take it all to work. One of the CPAs said he would plug through it with me. Yuck.
