We know full well most of the money lines the pockets of foreign despots, the money isn't intended for aid, that's just a guise to ease our collective conscience, the money we pay other countries is foreign policy collateral we use to keep them on our side in disputes. Essentially we pay to either have them keep their mouths shut or use as leverage when we want their help with something. It's no more about helping the poor than Chappaquiddick was about going for a dip. The good vibe feel it gives libs is more of icing on the cake and something both sides can point to and say, "see, we give a shit after all". I'm with you Chuck, it could be better spent elsewhere.

The Republican party has been gutted by a system that does not reward or even encourage core values being implemented after election to office. As sad as it is these days, the Republican party is still better than the alternative. In his first term Bush knew he was a limited intellectual and did a decent job by listening to some key advisers who could compensate for his inadequacies. The day after his re-election, he was consumed by a hubris that had him making decisions using his own brain. Not good.
