Heard on the radio this morning that ol' Dr.Phil is in deep shit with the state of Californication! Seems he let his license lapse a few years ago, and this no longer qualifies him as a doctor or to pretend to be one. Seems Californy is going to go after him...and they say this all came about because he tried to pimp Brittany. You gotta love it!

Big deal. I'm no fan of Dr. Phil but does a person all of a sudden lose a skill or talent just because he doesn't have a government license?
Jeeze, you go to college to get a degree, do continued education throughout your career but because you didn't pay the mandatory government fee so you could legally perform your learned profession you're still not qualified? WTF is all that education for?
A required license is nothing less than legal extortion.

It's about protection of the public, Chuck. If there was no licensing regulations, anyone could be practicing. Remember that mist licensing regs require you to pass some sort of certification. If you take that away, you don't know how good your guy is.

That reminds me of Dr. Laura. She presents herself as some kind of "wonder therapist," but her degree is actually in kinesiology.
That's the first time I've heard that about Dr. Phil. Hasn't he authored several books on "relationships" or matters similar? Seems to me one would need to hold an advanced degree in psychology or a least be a licensed therapist...
From what I understand, he was just a loser relationship consoler (sp?) until fatty O' found his ass and made him famous. Once he became more famous than her, she got pissed at him. All of a sudden he's the god of relationships. He tends to forget he and his wife had been legally seperated 3 times..... "Hey Dr Phil, she's crying, is it in right??"

The diploma and easily accessible public records should carry more weight than a $25 - $1000 fee paid to the government. Buying a license should be voluntary thereby requiring the government to actually have to do something to make their seal of approval worth a shit so that businesses would want to pay for a license and get something in return. The way the system currently is, it is just businesses protecting their industry not the government protecting the public.
I see being approved by a private entity more value than any government "ok, you can practice your business now."
