Interesting idea, but unless Mountain Dew contains phenyl oxalate ester (which seems unlikely) I don't really think it works.

acids and base(s) are opposites on the pH scale so I agree it is stupid to try this but not for the reason you imply. They would cancel each other out causing a neutral pH number. This is of course assuming they were equally as strong pH of contradicting acids and bases.
