Yes and I mention to them that it would be stupid to put your signature on something so anyone that has stolen your cc can just practice the signature. I haven't had anyone disagree yet... I also do not complain when they ask for I.D. !!!!!!!
Im in the restaurant biz, I own a sushi bar. Anyhow I get about 3 credit card transactions that are fraudulent every other month. I get a notice from Bank Of America Merchant Services regarding these transactions. And whats fucked up is that I lose out on this money and it averages about $75 bucks a month.
Now ive been thinking about this situation for a while, and was contemplating on
having my employees check I.D.s. But then again I say to myself, "who the fuck checks IDs at restaurants"??
So what do you guys think I should do?
1- Suck it up and move forward.
2- Put a notice sign & check IDs.
Thanks...
Somethings missing. In my retail store as long as we swipe the card and its approved we are backed by the processor. We have to send them a copy of the receipt which has a coded transaction number on it that tells if it was swiped or manually entered. If we manually entered the card, we are screwed. You might try checking with another processor. I think you are taking it up the ass. If you want I will give you the name of mine. The rates have held steady and we never have slow responses.
Best of luck.

If you are only losing $225/month, don't check IDs. A lot of customers would think of it as insulting, even though nominally it is for their own protection.
It is for situations like this that I have a hard copy list and a e-copy of all important phone numbers for my bank and CC companies. It my wallet was stolen, it would take about twenty minutes to notify them by phone, even less if I do it online, and they would be shut off.
I have never carried a check book. To be honest, I am on check 127 - I have written exactly 26 checks in about five years.
You would be surprised how much damage they can do in a short amount of time. My Credit union's fraud detection program actually shut my debit card off before I could call and report it. The bitch had already racked up $1200 in gift cards and video game systems.
Citibank offers a photo on the their credit cards, but other than a resturant, what merchant even touches your card anymore to even see the picture? Not very many. And even with a restuarant, I find it amazing that people are comfortable handing their credit card to a total stranger that then walks off with it, has ample time to write down the account number, cardholder name and flip it over to get the 3 digit security code. That's almost like asking for them to go shopping on you.
