It would seem the worst treatment they received was Blindfolded and put in a 8x6 cell. No doubt this would be a bit stressful, but enough to make them act the way they did? You've got to be kidding me.
The one soldier said that If they tried to talk to their friend, they were told to "Shhh".
No sleep deprevation, 3 meals a day, all the water they wanted, allowed to smoke, and gift bags to bring home, while wearing fresh suits.
If that is true, then they are in violation of several articles on the UCMJ (if they were American servicemen). We are required to memorize exactley what to say and do if captured.
Granted, these are not aviators or special forces, but I'm sure they received similar training going through basic.
I don't know the entire situation, nor am I privy to the debriefing transcripts, but from an outside perspective it appears as though they are accontable under several charges (if they were American servicemen).
I'm not calling them cowards for dishonoring themselves, their unit, and their country....but
A good portion were Royal Marines, I would have expected more from them. Further, I never quite understood how they were captured in the first place as they were in a pair of fast patrol boats that should have been able to turn tail as they saw 6 Iranian vessels rapidly approaching.
With carrier presence in the gulf we could have had air support there in minutes.
I guess they never covered Name, Rank and Serial Number in England. I guess they skip seer training as well (Survival, Evasion, Escape, Resistance Training).
Basic grunts don't receive SERE training. The students who attend this Navy course are the ones who have a greater risk of being stranded behind enemy lines, such as aviators, aircrewmen, Special Forces and force reconnaissance personnel.
The ROE only permit open fire as a retalitory measure. It's complete BS, but as a member of my last command's NCB VBSS team, this is what the standing orders were.
I guess this says something about the British Royal Marines ....every Devil Dog I've served with would be taking heads before letting himself be captured.
I am sure their treatment was worse than released....so far. I cannot understand how they could follow through with the Iranian demands so soon. Highroller does have an excellent point.

Some of these soldiers were interviewed prior to their capture several months ago and stated that their mission was surveillance of the Iranians. I think the Iranians have some info that would be embarrassing for Britain and this gave them leverage.
You have to give the French credit for having the experience to welcome invading armies for several hundred years & turning over the keys to Paris on a frequent basis
Its over for England and the english. They have gone french(gay).Probably sell the goody bags and suits on e-bay. Then again our elected leaders are bending us over to prep us to be annexed by Mexico. GTS Bruce
