Well I had been looking for some time for the right M4 A3 and came across a perfect example and couldn't pass it up.
Its an unfired M4 A3 LEO version. Cool thing is these were illegal to own untill the expiration of the assault weapons ban. This is stamped "RESTRICTED LAW ENFORCEMENT GOVERMENT USE ONLY" which might make it a collectors piece soon if the dems have their way!
Looking for a good tactical sight for it...any suggestions?
The LEO Stamp doesnt mean anything and may hurt the value a little bit as the laws stand right now. Some states still have the ban, so you have a smaller market for such weapons.
If they ever pass the ban again, it wont mean anything as weapons are now made in the exact same configuration without the markings. Their is no "LEO" version anymore unless it is a select fire weapon.
If you paid a dime over the regular market value for a brand new Bushmaster M4 clone (a real M4 has a selector switch, I believe what you have is a XM15-E2S) you paid too much. ( for a deal you would have paid 900-1000, retail is about 1000-1100.)
for a tac sight i recommend a Cmore. i have found ihave fastest target aquisition with those and u can still use iron sites with them. I have finished a few rounds in competition 3-5 seconds faster with the only change being a cmore site

Those are fine for a range queen but Cmore sights are not a durable field sight.

Other than that, it is a fine rifle.
Right it is an M4 clone. Paid well under market (900) for it so I was pleased. Not a lot of money so I was pleased. The LEO stamping was really more for me because I remember being so pissed when the passed the assault weapons ban.
I really don't plan on selling it. Just giving it to one of my sons in about 30 years... they way I got my father's and grandfather's firearms.
I am currently building a site for a guy here in town that is opening a gun store. We will be trading the work out. I am going to build one as a long range rifle and one for closer encounters.

i dont see what makes then not durable?(note:this is not an argument, just always wanting to know more) ACOG are huge pos. We had those on our Shotguns and the vibration from our boat wrecked them. over 2 ft off after a 2 day patrol.
The best site that i have used was a Leupold CQ/T MK4. never would get one though due to pricing.
EO tech are nice, just for me i found the bulky and funny lookin, great site none the less

The Cmore is a curve float design with very little protection to the glass. It is the worst of all worlds. It is incapable of of taking any rough use. and even hot loads will give them hell. It is designed to be used for target shooting only. If you dont plan to field the weapon, I inderstand that, but you can still bump and jar the hell out of it in the course of a day at the range.
As for the ACOG, Why the hell would you put one on a shotgun? Even if it was a slug gun...I say again, WTF? Throw some true glows on there or an EOtech of you need NV capabilaty. Much cheaper. ACOG does not make a specific mount for a Shotgun, so your problem was probably not the ACOG at all but the fact you had to put a "universal" picatinny or weaver on the Shotty. Marine environments are always hard on equipment but the ACOG itself is well up to the task.
EOtechs are tough as hell, form follows function, so it is going to be a bulky piece. The Leupold is a fine sytem as well.
They are said to be a quality battle sight. I have not seen more than a handful of them though. I could not do more than regergitate what I have read or heard about them.
