You guys will probably slam the hell out of me and bash me.But I am looking to the experienced for pointers.I am going to the track on friday.A group of us rented for the day.Weather is high of 50.I am running a stock srt with pilots. And have never run on a track before in the viper or any other car.Just ran the back road quarter miles. With a mustang.I do have some seat time in the srt with shifting ect.But no real running.Should I lower the tire pressure and to what.I understand that most will power shift. But I am nervous about breaking something or it coming loose.Any pointers will be great.
I would never do a track day on street tires. They dont grip for shit and even if they do a little bit it's only good for a lap or 2 before they completly overheat and turn to mush. If your gonna run the michelins just putt around and learn the proper lines, try not to push it too much cause you will most likely spin out.
It's no big deal. My advice is maybe run a few pounds under recommended in the rears.
Don't go through the water box, instead, drive AROUND it, and then back up into it with just the rear tires (this will keep the front tires from picking up water and tossing it on the ground for the first 30' - leaving you with NO traction). Brake burn the tires for a couple seconds, and then release the brake and roll out - when the tires grab they're probably about as good as they are going to be. Too much smoke/heat will make them greasy.
Just have fun. Don't worry about powershifting yet. Get used to the pressure and timing of your shifting, and then work on doing it faster with each pass.
I did 1/4 mile before getting hooked on roadracing, I dropped my rear tire pressure to 20 psi, some went a low as 18 psi. (I didn't want the to "cup") Do Not do a wet burnout (gotta disagree with you there Mike), drive around the wetbox and do a quick dry spin to clean the tires, good luck.
For comparision my '00 with exhaust turned a 12.04 @ 120.2 mph
Oh and listen to boplaw also

stock SRT tires suck ass. DO NOT go into the box. Drive around it and do a quick lil burner approaching the line. as I said before, stock run craps suck ass. They are worthless on the track, worse when it is 50 and even worser if you got some miles on them.
take your time and get a feel for the traction. feather the throttle on launch and do not power shift 1-2 if you are not sure of your traction.
OR, FUCK ALL THIS and buy a set of drags I have mounted to a set of SRT 10 spokes. Than you wont have to worry about a thing.
Don't lower the tire pressure on the stock SRT tires. I ran better times with the normal pressure, also try not to gun it at the line. You will spin like crazy. Low 12's @ 120 should be possible. Good Luck

You have 17 minutes to register for the poker game!!!
Thanks for the input.I will run with normal pressure and stay out of the wet box. Will do couple normal runs and try to improve as the day goes.13 of us are going for 5 hours so should be a great day.I should buy some drags and be done with it.My biggest worry is the temps out side being 50.
