A group of us were actually down in Topeka, Kansas on Saturday night to watch the filming of the show. Before each race, Kale Christiansen rides down the return lane to the end of the quarter mile, and sits there to "spot" the race and determine a winner. It's not like there's any traffic on the outside of the run lanes, and he usually just rides down there at like 10 mph. No big deal. However, during one of the races, an old school Corvette went down the track and never came back. Rich jumped on the bike to go see what happened. He goosed the bike (in what I believe was an attempt to show off) and the bike got away from him, did a burn out, got a tank slapper, and he low sided it. Probably the best spectacle of the night (aside from some of the people in the crowd).
I never ride my bike without gear. Even if it's just to the store and back a mile away. However, in this situation (controlled environment, only riding 1/4 mile, nobody else around, riding up and down the track all night), I suppose I can see why they didn't feel the need to wear gear. But it sure came back to bite Rich in the ass. Literally.
3 years ago while pulling some wheelies in the dirt I hit a large rock and flipped off my bike. I got up a little sore removed my helmet and saw it was gouged real bad. Everyone who was there was shocked including me how bad the helmet looked since i was going only 25 mph. I doubt I would have had an ear left if not for the helmet.
I was riding about 3 years ago and entered a familiar corner a little harder than normal. They had recut the corner and therefore, the line was different than I expected. I took my bike off a 6-8 foot enbankment, at about 45 MPH, into a slow moving portion of a creek. The area was laced in rocks and I must have endoed because the bike landed on top of me. I ended up shattering a rock with my helmet and had the footpeg go .5" into my back. I guarantee that had I not been wearing a helmet, I would have been killed. It probably would have shattered my skull. As it was, I just had a sore back, and a fractured knee cap.
on one show.. car #1 breaks.. guys in car #2 give them more than the allotted time to fix it, saying "we dont want to win this way".
car #1 guys fix the car and spank car #2 and get the car.
toolbox host pipes in with "that has to be the stupidest thing ive ever seen anyone do on the show".. sounded pretty sportsman like to me.. after that i never watched again.
I have to agree RC is a total Tool. I only watch the show as one of my friends is one of the technical advisors on the show. He had the woolly mammoth car on the show when it first started.
was that really one of the hosts of the show?? hahahha!!! I have rode without a helmet many times, but usually I'm just in the parking lot doing circle wheelies and not traveling at any speed. But I did fall off once and bumped my head, the feeling of your head hitting the hard assphalt is not something to forget. Since then I wear it all the time and feel naked without it. I've seen so many people wipe out with shorts and t shirts, road rash is a motherfucker so I wear my gear.
Unfortunately, you just gotta live with the consequences. Like when the hospital breaks out the ol' Weber grill cleaning wire brush to remove all the pebbles from your flesh
