Wife wants me to go to Vermont to check out real estate. She spent some time there and is loving it (i think it sounds cold myself)...
In any case, i may head over there in the next few weeks. Any suggestions of places i should check out?
I'm planning to stay with a buddy in Marlborough, Mass. but i figure we'll drive up one day to VT and check it out. Maybe we'll go to maine or rhode island as well who knows (sort of depends on how much partying my buddy wants to do).
thanks for any hints or suggestions. I'm interested in real estate with a couple of acres (i like 5+ acres), either just land or something with a 2500+ sqft house.
Being as you're from CA, Vermont will seem VERY cold to you, even in the summer! Marlboro, MA (the un-yuppy spelling) is about 40 miles from Walpole where I live. As a matter of fact, I drove through there yesterday.
From Marlboro, you'll be able to get to the VT border in less than an hour, but it is a loooong state, but not as long as California. Woodstock is a nice little town located in the center of the state. Pretty country up there, but I don't think that there is much in the way of excitement going on in VT.
The state is being infested by grown-up hippies & their liberal thinking ways. Example: VT is the first state in the union to accept gay marriages & they have Jim Jeffords as a senator. He's the guy who changed over to a Democrat & tipped the scales in favor of the Dems after Bush was elected.
One more fact about VT; there are more cows there than people!
i went to vermont a few years ago and went to manchester. it was one of the best times i have ever had, it is so relaxing and they have a top quality golf course
Manchester Ctr = Bromley Mountain and GREAT shopping.
Ludlow = Okemo Mountain (a bit dull)
Rutland = Killington Mountain and GREAT social scene
Further north you get up to Stowe and Burlington...Too Ccccccooold. :-)
:bonk:yes, im a native - grew up in burlington vt on lake champlain (25 years there) and now live in LA, your spouse may need some evaluation...
beautiful country but better buy in the sierras much closer too if you want to feel like youre living in the artic.
land in southern vt where youll be is really no bargain anymore. folks from the big city (ny) came in bought it all up so they could call themselves vermonters and drove prices way up... I quoted my wife this sentence and she told me "never with my foot". So i guess vermont is out of the question. She was willing to take the cold, the snow and the poor. But gay marriages, liberals and cold wheather -i don't think so.
I guess we are still here in CA.
Hey, i'm going to Marlboro, Mass at the end of this month to hook up with a buddy and do a traditional swedish crayfish party (vodka, food and women -not necessarily in that order). If anyone around mass is interested in hooking up and party a bit let me know. My buddy is swedish and we like our vodka chilled and strong
