They just had a Yellow SRT-10 on The Price is Right in the showcase. The lady actually bid 89,500k, which stunned me how realistic it was. Actual price was 89,700 so she won 147,517 when they threw in the Solstice vert from the other showcase and her trip to NYC. DAMN. Must have been a repeat or something to give away that much shit during the day (haven't seen the show in years).
Alright, back to watching commercials about that new personal mobility cart and term-life insurance I've been wanting...
That's cool. She could sell the Solstice and use the proceeds from that to pay the tax on the Viper and the rest of the stuff, and still have some cash left over.

Nice payday.
Huh? What kind of tax rate are you working with? Even if she was in a lower bracket before the win she would be launched into the higher one now. Figure an 'effective rate' of 25% and she'd owe $36,879 but it'd probably be more. Aren't those solstices only going for about $25?
Also I think winnings on a game show are taxed at a higher rate, but I'm not sure.
Not busting your balls (well maybe) but just wondering how you figured?
Well, actually, you know what, you are absolutely right. I didn't really think about the actual "numbers" when I wrote that. I just figured if she sold the car it would cover the tax on the rest.

Sloppy post on my part. Sorry.
Well, uh... Damn! I don't know what to write when someone is so accomodating! No apology needed!
Now I feel like a fool because when I showed the Redhead that post all she laughed at was my screw-up on the $25 solstice! Of course I meant $25GRRRR!
Someone once told me you pay almost 50% on prize winnings. Not sure, but 'said' person works at a horse track. He also said you can claim your losings, and said people go around picking up losing tickets off the ground for tax purposes. Winners also have other people cash in there ticket, and give them a small cut to avoid paying taxes. I guess the person cashing the ticket just doesn't care about an audit.
Don't big lottery winners usually end up with about half after taxes?
