So I got a job as a welder for a fruit line manufacturer and at work today i was having to cut some peices out of 1/4" mild steel with the skinnywheel. Well i hate the damn things cause iv seen what they've done to people, today it was my turn.
It kicked back and i took a good one to the finger. Its from my index knuckle up to about the beggining of my finger nail, and im pretty sure i was looking at bone. I think the heat from the wheel sort-of cartarized it cause it didnt bleed much.
Im to young to legally use the machinery and power tools on the job though so an L&I claim is out of the question. It feels okay now, but is still really sore. Anybody have any good secret to taking care of a cut way to deep?
Last year my buddy cut up his feet really bad/deep on Zebra mussels at my cottage. My first aid? pour half a bottle of cheap vodka over his feet and wrap 'em up.
Um, get medical attention and not work on stuff that you shouldn't be?
Your employer should be directing you to get this looked at (unless you didn't tell anyone???). Bottom line - you were hurt at work, you should be treated by a professional and work should pay.
If you are that young - and I have to believe that you are - getting a cut that deep and not having it treated, healing improperly, etc - could leave you with a lifelong reminder of what NOT to do if you get hurt. PLEASE - have a Doctor look at this.
Go to one of those "Quack In The Box" K clinic type places for your workers comp claim. They will help you realize that you also hurt your back but just haven't noticed it yet.

Solid advice right there, Casey. I've had a little experience with deep wounds and believe me, if it's really cut to the bone, you should have it looked at. There's no reason good enough for you not to have it cared for professionally. There's some nasty staff germs out there right now and I promise you, that's the last thing you need. Plus, if it's that deep, you sure don't want to end up with a nasty scar at your young age.
Did it go through your gloves? You were wearing gloves, right?

Blood poisoning is a serious concern here
I am missing the top of my index finger from the first knuckle up on my right hand because of a very small cut that I did not take care of when I was twenty. After 19 weeks off work, 200+ stitches after skin grafts from middle finger to index finger and from stomach to middle finger, many months of physical therapy, near death from blood poisoning(line up arm and lump in armpit) and lots of pain I still have no touch sensation, the thing gets cold like a motherfucker when it's below 60 degrees and I constantly bang it into things because I forget it's there.
Yeah, I would get medical attention dumbass!!!
But that's just me.
