I just bought a Glock 27 40 caliber and like it! Does anyone know of a good sister gun that I could purchase as well for home protection/fun at the range? The 27 may end up killing a neighbor a few houses down from what I have seen!
I was leaning towards a Sig 9mm but wanted some thoughts from some other people..
On the topic of guns, I don't own one and never have. Never even fired a pistol. I'm looking for a simple gun for home protection that can lay around unused and not jam up or anything. My 5'1" 105 lb. g/f needs to to be able to fire it, but she's owned an AK47 already. Strictly home protection.

If you are looking at home defense your best bet is always a shot gun. Close range, loud bang, wide pattern and won't penetrate every room in your house if you miss.
But for a home defense handgun I've got the H&K USP 40 with the flashlight attachment. I've loaded it with the "buck shot" shells every third shot. This will give you a loud bang and wide pattern for the first shot while you aim and kill the fucker with your second and third.
I have many guns, and you made a great choice on the glock!
Socall Rebell brings up a good point. My dad was going to have my mom shoot the glock until he and I shot it at the range. F-ing hilarious! He was like "this might not be the gun for her". She is also about 5' tall.
How about a 380 for a woman? I think it would have plenty of stopping power with some good holo point ammo..
Rule number one...Shot placement. End of story. No firearm that a normal person can use will move a person more than a a few inches. It is simple physics...The weapon did not really move you when you fired it and it will hit the target with even less energy that is dissipated over more flesh. No weapon will knock anyone down. Google suicide vids...hell people who shoot themselves point blank in the head with a .45...their heads dont move an inch.
Which rounds are more lethal when it comes to sidearms is all about arguing hearsay and close percentages. The truth is, it really doesnt matter what you get shot with...if it is not a brain or upper spinal chord shot....they dont stop whatever they are doing in that instant or at the very least, they still have the ability to continue aggressive actions...and make no mistake...very often times do. Learn to shoot well and keep your cool when people are pointing guns at one another and it doesnt matter what you are shooting.
If I blow your leg off with a bazooka it is not as effective as a 22 through the eye.
Rule number 2. All firearms from .22 to 50 cal (to include shotguns) will go through all the walls of your home. Sheetrock, plaster, insulation and paintings dont do much to slow down bullets. A .22 will go through 2-5 rooms of sheetrock (double sided and all). Think about that. Even a light rifle round will go through 5-10 and continue on through the brick or rock on the outside. So the point is pretty silly. Caliber doesnt matter much if you are worried about over penetration. The simple truth is, if you fire off a round in the house, any round, it is going to go through a lot of stuff. That is what bullets do and the stuff your home is made of does not do a lot to stop bullets.
Yes, there are special rounds that claim to solve this, they are not reliable, just know that. They will at times go through a lot of stuff as well.
So, the question is "What gun?" The answer... Any standard service caliber side arm (9mm, 40, 45, whatever...also most people are surprised to learn that for the most part 9mm will penetrate more than the rest) that is of quality make that you like and can shoot well into the Kill zones of an angry moving target, in low light, with your nerves on edge.
However, The common wisdom, and I agree with it 100%, is for home defense, a quality 12 gauge with a capacity of at least 5 rounds is the wisest and best choice.
So, Guns shoot bullets that tend to go through a lot of stuff....THEY ALL DO. Inside you want a shotgun. If you take to the field, you want a rifle, if you have no choice or need to hide a weapon, that is when you choose a sidearm.
In a gunfight no one ever pays much attention to what gun and caliber, just who won and who died.

The best weapon is whatever you can hit something with. I always laugh at the gangsters with their .50 desert eagles that miss the target all together along with the backstop!!!
In the last 18 months I have well over 200,000 rounds down range out of just about any firearm you can think of. At least two that did not get down range where drilled into some fuckfaces ear. the lesson there...if you gain the advantage fast and grind a weapon into someones face, they tend to comply.
