For 40 grand, I would choose the new Challenger, even though it isn't quite that powerful. Fuck Mustangs. I have had three of them in my life, which was more than enough.
I don't see how anyone can bash on the new Mustang. It looks good and now has 500 hp.
Where has all the entry and mid-level sports cars gone? All the F-Bodys are history, the Supra and GN's are long gone and the rest of the cars (350Z, Eclipse, Miata) are nice cars for your girlfirend.
There is more power and competition in the coupe and sedan market including the 400+HP -- SRT8 300C and Charger, Caddy CTS-V and GTO.
The only sports car close to the $40k Mustang is the $60k Vette with less power.

I could not have said it better myself. They just announced today that it specs out at 500 hp instead of the 475 they previously announced. What car can you get for the low $40's that has that kind of power? I haven't really liked the Mustang styling since the 60's until now. Not that I'm really excited about it though. Not that I'd have it over a Viper or some exotic car or something, but for that price range how can you go wrong?

Not going to get it for low 40s unless you own a Ford dealership. Even then you're going to have to get in line. Shit, you can't buy a SC Saleen or Roush for low 40s.

I do like the car doe.
The one time they talked about price on it they said the sticker would be $42-$46,000. I guess they have a list of people wanting the car 10 X the number of actual cars they are going to produce. So of course there is going to be a markup by the stealerships. But, that's the way it is with supply and demand I guess. They'll probably be going for pretty high prices on E-bay as well. But it's not like Ford itself is going to have any control over what they go above sticker.

I like this car. 500 HP will make it a nice competitor of the C6 vette.
Yeah, but I'll guess by the time it hits showroom floors and the dealer gouging begines you'll be able to pick up a C6 Z06 for the same price as some of these GT500's. For a 500HP, limited run car, it's going to have to sticker in the upper 40's. Add the nice fat dealer markup and you'll be within spitting distance of the Z06 sticker.

A 500hp EVO or STi will give that Mustang a thrAAAAshing pretty much everywhere for slightly less money.
We didn't just buy these cars because we wanted Asian chicks, yo...
