sorry if I keep posting similar threads.. So I tried some drag racing with my frind in his 06 Charger SRT-8.. His car (According to numbers) does 4.9 0-60 and about 13.1ish Quarter Mile.. According to the numbers my Viper will wipe the floor with him over a second to 60 and the quarter mile..
I can't get steady traction, it he is 1-2 car lengths ahead of me until my traction evens out around late 2nd-3rd and by 3rd gear I clearly pass him and keep passing him into 4th and on.. It's obvious my car is considerably quicker than his.. but up until 60-80 he is ahead.. It's all in my lack of traction..
I tried just gunning it.. well I was spinning through 1st..2nd.. without moving! hehehe (fun)
The key is feathering.. and rolling on the throttle.. but in the heat of driving how do you guys keep the tires on the pavement? You just slowly push the throttle down in first in a drag race, then shift to 2nd and once again (not mash) bust slowly lay down the accerlator to the floor?Mind you this was with outside temp under 60 degrees this evening.. my tires seem to have plenty of tread on them still.. but in 1st I mean it's REALLY hard to get any traction.. I was testing it in a parking lot and even at like 30% throttle I am losing traction.. do I just need slicks?
Sucks to not be able to use the car to the best of it's ability... I will continue to work on it..Going to ATCO next weekend any honest and decent advice?
Please stop driving on the roads with the rest of us. Have someone trailer your car to ATCO and learn to drive. As you said, it is a balancing act of throttle and clutch from a standstill.
And this is the most important part: never, EVER, race anybody, ever.

Get familiar with the ability of the car and respect it's power. I have ended up facing traffic a couple of times because I didn't know what I was doing and just mashed the gas. Become familiar with the power and handling. REMEMBER: the back end of the car always wants to become the front. Experiment with different launches when you are not lined up next to someone else. Find the sweet spot and get comfortable with it. It takes a little time.
Also, just because you have plenty of tread doesn't mean you will have traction. Old tires = hard rubber. Check the date code on the sidewall. Also, check your tire pressure. And as the others have said SEAT TIME!
listen to CHAD and stop doing this shit on the streets before you wreck your car and more importantly kill someone.
You suck at driving a Viper.
Is everyone on this forum a prick? Honestly....
Yeah I am new at the Viper.. Learning to acclerate without mashing the gas as much.. looking for the best acceleration technique.. so I would say I do suck at it... I'll get better, but you will always be a nasty prick...
different roads will net different results. remember the snake can bite you at any time just like any wild creature. when you get used to hammering down the throttle, remember that all road surfaces are not alike and your back end will come around from time to time so be ready at all times.
