Question Best "rewards" credit card?

I have learned that I am woefully behind the times when it comes to credit cards. I have had the same cards for years with only Discover offering a pittance of a rebate. Seems that all my compatriots have mileage cards (airline rewards) or something similar. I put my business expenses and some personal stuff on credit cards and figure I should look into getting something back in return. Of course most of my cards are still under 10% for the interest rate, but I try not to carry a balance.

So, anybody have any "faves" when it comes to rewards cards? Citibank has a new point system that I am switching to and I think I will convert one of my gas cards to a gas rebate card (2% I think it is). Any other suggestions?

Amex has a good rewards card. They come out with a game called the "Wishlist" yearly, you redeem points for awesome prizes like trips and even cars.

I use strictly my American Express Platinum Card, no balance, no interest and reward points, sometimes double points. You do not want to get into credit card debt, especially the way interest rates are going and the new credit card laws that went into effect on 1/1/06, they're killers

I use the Chase Business Visa.

3% rebate on all purchases from home improvement & hardware stores, building supply stores, gas stations, restaurants & taverns, and office supply stores. The 3% category has yearly limit of $20,000. After the first $20,000, it switches to 1%.

1% rebate for all other purchases.

Shit I spend more than that in a month! Seems like the 2% Discovery card would be best, but I've never had one. I have a Chase Continental Airlines and an MBNA Business Rewards. One gives tickets, the other merchandise or cash. I carry no balances...

Make credit work for you not the other way around...

Chris, let me know if you find one that will give a 20K line to somebody with a double digit credit score. I gotta stick somebody with the bill for these upcoming track days.

I was in the same position. Discover sucks since it isn't accepted every where. Get the chase rewards. The money automatically gets put back on the card and the reward percentages are better than Discover. No brainer IMO.

I use Amex as you can transfer points to several Airlines and choose other merchant rewards.

Also the detailed year end summary is a good tax tool since you can now deduct state sales tax.

There it is! Best way to go by far. Even better is how hard Amex fights for you if there's ever conflict. They've even given me $ and free mileage when they couldn't get a vendor to do the right thing!

Annual Fee = $2,500
Requires the user to charge at least $250,000 a year.

It is pretty nice to have though. I got my box seats for the rolling stones through the centurion card when everything was already sold out.

I haven't used my discover card in a while. While it does offer rewards which everyone does by now, it isn't taken in as many places here and they don't offer any service over seas which is makes it useless if you travel much. When I was heading out to NZ, I called into all of the issuers of my cards to make sure that they should expect charges from overseas. I called into Discover and told them that for the next few months, they would be getting charges from Auckland and not to worry about it. They said that was fine. First night out in NZ, I get rejected when I try to pay for dinner. The idiot on the phone neglected to tell me that the card is only good in North America. I could have been a it screwed if it were my only card or I lacked cash on me. Bad service if you ask me.
