I'm trying to get rid of a gut and flab but keep up my muscle mass (which isn't a whole lot at the moment). I do Ju-Jitsu 4 times a week and most of it could be considered cardio because nearly the entire time you are moving and struggling.
I'm 25, 5'8", currently 175lbs. I'm looking into a liquid diet only and found some nice ready-to-drink meal replacements. The total per day would be:
This would be broken up evenly over a 12 hour period (essentially 12 small meals). I like to look and feel healthy and I'm pretty sure I should stay away from low calorie diets, I'm thinking at least 1800 calories is bare minimum for me. I also have a
Anything wrong with the above? Is it dangerous to stick strictly to this liquid diet for too long? Do I need to add/subtract anything?
Diets are very very simple, take in less calories than your body burns and you will lose weight. Thats it, plain and simple. All these diet fads are lame.
The key to a diet is you don't want it to be no fun or unrealistic.
Also you want to keep your metabolism going at high rates all day.
This is what I would suggest over a liquid diet because to me I wouldn't be able to do that for more than a week or 2
Eat something in the morning, anything! I usually have 2 hard boiled eggs or I'll swipe some of my roomates cereal.
Eat some fruit or yogurt before lunch, and for lunch keep it something light as well.........maybe some baked chicken or something?
More yogurt or fruit
Dinner something like fish or chicken, even beans are always nice
The key is to keep eating all day long but make sure its small stuff and healthy stuff. I don't know if you drink lots of booze or soda but that is loaded with bad stuff, and although it tastes oh so sweet, if you are on a diet it can slow you down. Juice is also perceived as healthy, which it is but it has a lot of carbs in it. Look at the side of some minute maid lemonade or limeaide.........its all carbs and loaded with sugar. Stick to good ol fashioned water!
Not exactly MM, eating more often is good, but the key is to not increase the volume. Take the same given total amount of food and eat it via 6 meals instead of 3 is great, but most people can't do that.
But yeah in the end it really doesn't matter, eat less than you require and you will lose weight. Thermodynamics doesn't lie.

Exactly and if you are concerned with maintaining muscle mass, make sure you are still getting plenty of protein. Takes more energy to convert then carbs and you will maintain more mass.
