I lived in Ely, Nevada for 5 years and got to see my share of Silver States. I used to really want to do the unlimited stuff but then I became a dad and the thought of dying while speeding through the desert suddenly became a tangible rather than a theoretical consideration. Hard to have someone explain to ones kid that they aren't there because they pulled some high speed stunt.
That being said I really love the open road racing stuff and am working on building a '72 Plymouth Satellite for that type of racing. Maybe run in some of the lower speed brackets. For the last few years I've been wanting to go back and watch some but my work has interfered. That and the thought of having to camp out in the desert (the COLD Great Basin desert) for two days because all the hotel rooms are sold out a year in advance. Maybe I'll buy a tent this year and get out there. It would be fun to watch it fron the Narrows area and alot warmer at night than near Ely.
