You've probably read about Dr Steven J. Hatfill - the guy the FBI suspects of being the anthrax terrorist. Well they have no proof of anything but they've been tailing him so relentlessly that one of their surveillance units ran over the guy's foot. Now is that harrassment or what?
I dunno about y'all but to me the FBI has become a bunch of fuckin boobs ever since Louis Freeh (sp?) took them down into the dumper. They used to have a hell of a good reputation, but not anymore. Remember the Atlanta Olympics bomber suspect Richard Jewel that they were soooo certain was 'the guy'? And they harrassed the shit out of him, leaking stories about his private life to the press and all ... ruined his career and his life and lo and behold he turned out NOT to be 'the guy'.
Goddamn Feebies ... I don't trust them at all anymore. Not professional in the least. Heaven forbid they get to thinking you're guilty of something and they fuckin ruin you. No proof against this Hatfill dude but they're in the same old mode of screwing his life. And where's the accountability? Once they've tarred an innocent man like Jewel and later find out they were wrong, do they compensate the poor bastard for the ruined career and destroyed reputation they've caused him? Hell no. I hate em. Damned gestappo.
FBI is a fucking JOKE. When havent they fucked up a major operation? Ruby Ridge? WACO? OK?
John Ashcroft is a joke. He's too busy drafting legislation to take away our civil liberties to worry about cleaning up his house.

wound up getting a ticket for "walking to create hazard" that carries a $5 fine
Sorry we ran over your foot - here's your ticket. Next time be more careful.
you are fucking joking John Ashcroft a joke?I guess you'd like to have that cross eyed fucking lesbian JANET RENO!
I worry more about an FBI that doesnt have to play by the rules. Our basic freedoms are being taken away - the Patriot Act (and the followup Patriot Act II) gives the government the power to bypass the Constitution and send people directly to Jail - no hearing, no bail, no attorney, no family, no nothing.
Section 215, grants unprecedented authority to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other law enforcement agencies to obtain search warrants for business, medical, educational, library, and bookstore records merely by claiming that the desired records may be related to an ongoing terrorism investigation or intelligence activities -- a very relaxed legal standard which does not require any actual proof or even reasonable suspicion of terrorist activity.
Section 215 includes a "gag order" provision prohibiting any person or institution served with a search warrant from disclosing what has taken place.
These enhanced surveillance powers license law enforcement officials to peer into Americans' most private reading, research, and communications. Several of the Act's hastily passed provisions not only violate the privacy and confidentiality rights of those using public libraries and bookstores, but sweep aside constitutional checks and balances by authorizing intelligence agencies (which are within the executive branch of government) to gather information in situations that may be completely unconnected to a potential criminal proceeding (which is part of the judicial branch of government). The constitutional requirement of search warrants, to be issued by judges, is one such check on unbridled executive power. In addition to the dangers to democracy from such unbridled executive power, it is not clear that these enhanced investigative capabilities will make us safer, for under the new provisions, far more information is going to the same intelligence agencies that were failing to manage the ocean of information they collected prior to September 11.
Not to be overlooked, is the proposed "Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003," a more extreme version of the USA PATRIOT Act, which could be introduced in Congress at any time. This proposed legislation, leaked by a Justice Department official to the Center for Public Integrity, would make it easier for the government to initiate surveillance and wiretapping of U.S. citizens, repeal current court limits on local police gathering information on religious and political activity, allow the government to obtain credit and library records without a warrant, restrict release of information about health or safety hazards posed by chemical and other plants, expand the definition of terrorist actions to include civil disobedience, permit certain warrantless wiretaps and searches, loosen the standards for electronic eavesdropping of entirely domestic activity, and strip even native-born Americans of all of the rights of United States citizenship if they provide support to unpopular organizations labeled as terrorist by our government.
The USA Patriot Act effectively eliminated:
FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION: Government may monitor religious labor, and political institutions without suspecting criminal activity to assist terror investigation.
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION: Government has closed once-public immigration hearings, has secretly detained hundreds of people without charges, and has encouraged bureaucrats to resist public records requests.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH: Government may prosecute librarians or keepers of any other records if they tell anyone that the government subpoenaed information related to a terror investigation.
RIGHT TO LEGAL REPRESENTATION: Government may monitor federal prison jailhouse conversations between attorneys and clients, and deny lawyers to Americans accused of crimes.
FREEDOM FROM UNREASONABLE SEARCHES: Government may search and seize Americans' personal records, business documents and telephone/internet activity without probable cause to assist terror investigation.
RIGHT TO A SPEEDY AND PUBLIC TRIAL: Government may jail Americans indefinitely without a trial.
RIGHT TO LIBERTY: Americans may be jailed without being charged or being able to confront the witnesses against them.
So now the FBI can go on "fishing expeditions" and fuck up even more lives - people who have proven over and over that they are incapable of performing basic operations without fucking them up entirely.

They totally runied Jewels life! BIG! I remember seeing him on 20/20 ro something like that. And it was a LONG time after the bombing. The guy totally broke down in tears on camera. He sid the FBI ruined his whole life & basically didn't give a crap that they'd done so.
I have to agree with everyone here. Ashcroft's knee-jerk methods to take away our civil liberties seem borderline nazi and completely lacking any forethought. Just one liberal action right after another to take away civil liberties that amount to additional security whatsoever. All this rings of is the craziness of the McCarthy era, Witch Trials, and the Spanish Inquisition. Damn stupid and a very damaging blow to our constitution. They took innnocent until proven guilty and tossed it out the window. Fuckin liberals. Im surprised that the Bush administration would allow this type of liberal rhetoric.
The protections were put into place because we had an overzealous FBI. Now, without debate, under the guise of "internal security" those rights have been stripped away and put back into the hands of an inept FBI.
It'll take YEARS to undo the damage caused by this administration and Ashcroft in particular.
My family has personal experience with our great FBI. I'll try to keep it short:
Back in '99 my brother was arrested at gun point from his home. The FBI, ATF and local Sheriff department (11 Police cars in total) blocked off his street early one Friday morning. They surrounded his home and arrested him on 4 counts of Federal armed bank robbery.
Not booked until late Friday, lawyer meet with the Federal Judge on Monday, set hearing for Tuesday and finally posted bail and released on Wednesday - 5 days glorious days in Federal Prison.
Now the good part. He had recently divorced and his ex. wife had remarried. One week prior to his arrest he had submitted a demand letter to his ex. wife for money owed (motive).
Can you guess who reported him to the FBI as the robber?? Yup - his ex. wife.
Can you guess who the lead FBI agent was?? Just so happened to be the FBI partner of her new husband who worked for US Customs. Coincidence?
How long did is take us to prove he didn't do it?? About 1 hour - he electronically clocks into work and the work files showed he was at work during two of the robberies. :bonk:
What did we do? Sued the US Government - not an easy thing to do. FOUR YEARS later and some $300,000 in expenses the trial was last week. We are currently waiting for the Federal Judge to rule in the next few days.

PLEASE let us know what the outcome is. Personally I'd settle for expenses and a couple years in prison for ex-wife and her corrupt husband.
But if they don't get prison then I hope your bro gets 20 mil. 10 mil will go to the lawyers of course, the government (who ironically, you are sueing) will extort 60%+ in taxes and your bro will end up with a couple mil take home. Not bad.
