I am going to be in Hamden for a weekend in mid-February. I would prefer a suite. Anyone know of a good hotel. I have been all over hotels.com and expedia and shit, but I sometimes worry you aren't getting "accurate" information.
I used to live in Cheshire (north of Hamden), before I moved to NJ.
Hamden is a shit-hole suburb of New Haven. There aren't any good hotels in town.
The only thing Hamden is known for is strip malls and Sleeping Giant State Park.
The southern part of Hamden along Dixwell Ave. is inhabited by scumbags, drug dealers, pimps and hoes, etc.
New Haven has the Colony Hotel which is a block away from Yale. You will have access to all the Yale hangouts, Toads Place, York Street, Wooster Street (Little Italy), etc.
You could go 20min up I-91 to Meriden which has The Four Points by Sheraton. they have a nice bar and happy hour that fills up with the locals.
Holiday Inn in North Haven is close to Hamden and is OK, but it's just a place to sleep and not much happening around there. Head down to New Haven for some nightlife.
Courtyard by Marriott in Wallingford is also close to Hamden but nothing happening around there either. Take a 5min drive to the the Sheraton in Meriden from here for happy hour.
Cops around there are OK. They don't use laser or instant-on radar in that area.
You'll find a lot of older muscle cars, bikes and ricers in the Wallingford area. Connecticut has property tax on automobiles so you typically don't see too many newer exotics around.
I have to disagree there. I'm local to the area, and Wallingford cops are brutal about traffic enforcement, and yes, they do have laser. The Courtyard is a decent place, though. Good luck.
