Reflections on Banning...

I was typing to another board member here about bannings and I told him the following:

Actually, I feel kind of bad about all of this banning shit that is going on. When I first started lurking here, the only bannings I ever saw were mod initiated, and they were few and far between. No one really used the member sponsored banning poll provision much. Then when #1 Viper came around, I started the first (unsuccessful) poll to ban him. Now everytime an idiot comes around, everyone just jumps on the ban band wagon instantly. Lots of really quick-witted people don't even participate in the dog-piles anymore. It's really a shame, because when the whole crew jumps in, we can run someone off in hours.

Then in another thread, we were discussing Yo Tony and how guys like him are a pain in the ass and require constant supervision. And Rockstar mentioned how much of a pain in the ass these bannings are. And we've seen what, like five informal banning polls in the last month or so. It's kind of crazy. People, myself included, have just gotten too lazy to run someone off the old fashioned way. Don't get me wrong, some people like #1 Viper and 84 Fuck Stick need to be banned, run off, or otherwise removed from the herd, but HELL, how many polls have there been to ban Craig?

So, Admin, Mods, fellow contributors, what can we do about this? How are we going to rectify the flood of bannings and make life easier on the mods. Raise the percentage to trigger a formal poll? Require a protest bond that is forfeited if the poll fails (just think how much revenue that could generate from failed Craig bannings alone)? GROW A SET OF NUTS AND START COLLECTIVELY HAMMERING THESE IDIOTS LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW?

I don't think you will see any further banning polls out of me. If dogpiling doesn't work, I'm just going to try to hit the ignore button and hope they go away---that's how I dealt with vipeuup. What a douchebag he was.

Anyway, this was just something that was bothering me that I would thought I would mention. Hopefully, 84 Fuck Stick will stay out of this thread and not use it as a spring board to plead, once again, for his e-life.

Kenny

You don't really think that a formal banning pool or even an actual banning is that much work for the mods to you? I suspect the whole process actually takes less time than it took you to write that post.

Re: Reflections on Banning...

Kenny was conversing with me re said banning issues...

My reply was as follows:

It was you who started the first #1viper banning!
I missed the first one, but pushed the second one...he was an asshat...
That said, I do agree with you...the banning thing has gotten out of control...
As you stated (correctly, I will add)...some of these noobs just don't get it. When you are beat, accept it like a man, and walk. Hell, I walked when I tangled with nohs (or more accurately - when he jumped my shit)...

Instead, they just keep coming with lame-ass shit...

RE the dogpile issue...I agree...doesn't happen the way it should anymore...

I agree that some twats should be banned...but others just need a good old fashioned schoolyard whipping...

Spectating is enjoyable, but if the fucktard just doesn't get it...dogpile him...

WAR THEY THINK ARE SOOO COOL WITH THEIR BANNED BY VIPER ALLEY T-SHIRTS.

I honestly don't know what about VA attracts these shit stains, maybe they like the e-thrashing, or are just bored? heck if I know, but it's gotten way out of hand lately.

I do like the idea of a troll forum. Kind of a "time out" from posting on the daily events of the alley where they can fester amongst themselves. But hell how do we decide who gets put in there? more poll's and chit?

We have a troll forum on our site and we actually had tossed someone in there last night. You wouldn't believe who we threw in there. But it seems to be working out quite well.

Re: Reflections on Banning...

I don't think anyone should be banned unless they break the rules, flagrantly. In such cases, let the mods make the decision, which they have done in the past. As I have previously stated, going for the ban on someone with whom you are having a smack fest with is lame. Mods as a group can also decide whether someone is a troll or merely a dumb ass. Dumb asses should be allowed to stay.

Re: Reflections on Banning...

I just recently signed up, but have been watching the threads for quite a while, and if there is one thing i have noticed about the folks in here is they like to jawjack and talk smack! Which is of course not a bad thing and in my opinion should be taken lightly. I think the banning should be left for serious infractions based on the viperalley constition. If someone is just being a pain in the ass, does that really warrant a banning?

I know my opinion on the matter is pretty worthless, but it is just a question relating to Kenny's and RCKT's posts.

Re: Reflections on Banning...

Make a banning poll like an NFL challenge. If you start a banning poll and it does not get the % necessary you take a one week time out.

More people need to use the ignore feature on the trolls. It works like an instant banning.

You know that could work out rather well :thumb:

Course I like the pay to protest idea. It's worked well in racing for quite some time, put up a monitary deposit to protest. If it fails your forefit the $$$ But then again just bypass the b/s and pay-to-ban
