i bought a boat a few weeks ago and it was supposed to be a 2006 model, in fact its a new model for 2006 (they didnt even make the boat in 05) and the specific boat was the one they used to photo for the mastercraft website. my finance contract and my buyers order both state that the boat is a 2006 and then today i get my registration and bill of origin in the mail and they both say that it is a 2005 and the 8th to last number in the vin is infact a 5 which represents a 2005 model.
what are my options?
on top of that the 2nd day i had it a drunk slut drove a jetski into it claming she couldnt find the brakes on the 200hp ski. it did a few grand in damage which the owner of the jetskis insurance has already paid to repair, i havent had the work done yet
well i was sold a 2006 boat and got a 2005, i either want to give it back or get some money back, id rather just have the 1 yr of depreciation paid to me
the dealer sells alot of boats online so ill either cause all sorts of hell and fuck his business up or he will make me happy. i didnt catch the vin because it isnt on the contract with the hull, motor and trailer serials, its in a diffrent spot. 99% of people dont know how to tell model year by the vin regardless
Sorry if I missed it, but did the boat change for 2006 from the 2005 you have?
Also, you may not have any real damages (There is no depreciation really, like buying a one year left over, it depreciates from the service date, unless there was a drastic change in the model)
Keep in mind, if you saw the boat, drove the boat, and actually got THAT boat, you have no damage. Again, unless there was a material change for 2006, then you lost out on the upgrades and may have a claim.
One interesting point that I hope a boat dealer can clarify. I looked at a small speedboat to pull behind my boat. I remarked that the boat was a 2004 and wondered if the dealer had a 2005. He said that model hadn't changed and they would just change the VIN to a 2005. I said you're shitting me, how can you do that. He claims they do it all the time with boats. WTF? Can anyone clarify?
Best of luck! In my experience, after a marina gets the check, they put you on the pay me no mind list. Raw deal!

Given it has been damaged, I doubt you'd be able to give it back. I can see the 1 year of expected depreciation as reasonable to try to get, have you contacted them about such?
yeah everything is square, the trailer is an 05 and so everything says 05 from the dmv, boat vins and trailer vins are very diffrent and i was looking at the trailers vin. the cert. of origin is for the trailer which was also made by mastercraft which is what threw me. thanks for the replys, sorry i wasted your time
