You're good to go my man. Coming from FL going to TX you won't take I10 down through New Orleans. You'll take the 10 to the 12 and then back on the 10 again in Baton Rouge. Check the map.
That's kinda what I'm trying to find out. I know a barge hit one of the bridges and they are currently inspecting the bridge for damage. I'd like to know about any other surprises.
Chuck, I'll check it out. The hotel you guys will be staying at is in Metairie off of the Causeway exit. I have only approached New Orleans from the West and the I-10 is clear all of the way to the I-10/610 split. I'll PM you with more info tomorrow. I have friends that went from Metairie to see what was left of their house in Pass Christian yesterday, so I will talk to them too and find out what route they took.
Please advise on the I-10 situation - we've got to get to Texas in the middle of October, too.....
If you're traveling to Texas then you don't need to worry about the 10 in New Orleans since you will bypass the New Orleans area competely by taking the 12 from Slidell to Baton Rouge.
The 10 freeway coming westbound makes a turn south in Slidell and returns north in Baton Rouge about 85 miles west. If you run I10 through New Orleans you're going to run an extra 30 or so miles.
The 10-12-10 route has been open since about a week after Katrina hit.

That's good info for my trip to Texas next month. But this weekend I'm going into New Orleans and I-10 has typically been the best route. Not sure now though.
