Question on a 2000 Volkswagon Jetta

Before I get a ton of shit just remember this is in the anything goes section and I am asking because it seems like there are alot of good mechanics on here.Ok now time for the question my friend has a Jetta vr6 it starts fine but then it will rev like mad not like a choke rev but like a full throttle rev and then it dies.It also will run fine until you come to a stop and then it will also just die.I was wondering if this could be a computer issue or a Throttle position switch? The garage here said "It something in the wiring" and that is all the gave her to go on.Any help is appreciated.

There is a mexican crammed in the cylinder.

The proper procedure to get rid of this problem is to sell that POS VW and buy a honda/acura. Your friend will also enjoy a car that doesn't depreciate at the rate that one experiences IQ loss from reading your posts.

Take it to Autozone so they can read the codes for you (free)
or buy a OBRA-II code reader ($39.97 at Harbor Freight) and do it yourself.
Sounds like a faulty TPS sensor but it could be a number of things, that's why
you need to know the codes it's throwing.

the 2000 Jetta VR6 has a "fly by wire" throttle system, the potentiometer's in the throttle pedal have been known to fail, there are really several things it may be, first lets cover the basics

was the battery replaced recently? if so the throttle adapt needs to be reset (where you "teach" the ECM where the throttle butter fly is in relation to throttle closed)
miles?
major work performed on it?
if you could give a little more information on the back ground of this one I am sure I can help diagnose it for you

Same thing happened to my Volkswagon Thing. Replaced the muffler bearings and it ran great.

Did you put the nice chrome ones on it? They are good for at least 5hp. I thought you had trouble with the kanootin valve?

Re: Question on a 2000 Volkswagon Jetta

I beleive the mechanic said it was the flux capacitor and the stock muffler tape and the right blinker was low on fluid.

And don't forget to change the air in the tires. VW's ride crappy with stale air.

The kanootin valve wasn't used until 1976. My Thing was a 74. I should have prefaced that.
