Well, Camille is the benchmark since they have been naming storms. Camille has a pressure of 905. This one has gone to 902.

It will blow out the windows of the concrete office buildings. Frame structures will be leveled. Another major issue is the storm surge. This one is predicted to be between 15 and 30 feet. Since N.O. is several feet below sea level take a guess as to what is going to happen. I'm no "sky is falling" type but it wouldn't surprise me if Tuesday morning N.O. resembles Hiroshima Aug 7, 1945.

Apparently it wasn't too bad. I didn't ride it out---I had to get my mom, grandmother, and fiancee out of town. 15 hours from NOLA to Houston---not fun. My dad is a local official. He rode it out and they even were mobile during parts of the storm and went to my office building which has gensets that run the entire building including A/C. It is right off of Causeway, in the first block south of I-10 and only got 2" of water in the building.

Also, the news is sensationalizing this as press always does. The guys who are climbing up on their roofs were in Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parish which are not encircled by hurricane protection levees and are further south than NO.

The storm surge did not overcome the levees in Jefferson or Orleans parishes---close, with some waves lapping over, but nothing major. There may have been one small breach in New Orleans east, which was quickly repaired.

We dodged a major fucking bullet.
