Anyone know much about this car? Rumor has it we have one that will be racing in our next points event. Heard the thing is like a real fast go kart. Any of you actually test drive one? Got any info on it?
Also, they have a ton of room in them compared to the Esprit. Which is a shame... because I really wanted the last year Esprit! But alas... I would have to add the GT3 seats, different offset wheel in order to get in it
Elises in the US are track only, not street legal as MM said. My next project car is going to be an Elise. You can get them in at about 1600-1700 lbs, and the stock motors (depending on which version) are up to 200 hp. My plan is to ditch the stock motor and go with something closer to 300 hp. 300 HP with a curb weight of 1600 lbs or so and an aero kit will decimate anything else on the track. Lotus will have a street legal Elise here in the states in 2004.
I did see one at barrett jackson, it was cool.
You could make it street legal if you title it under an experimental or kit car. It would still have to pass emissions but there is a way around that too.
I have sat in the Elise (e-leeze) when I was at LCU. My bigass fit no problem
The Esprit is getting a makeover with MORE ROOM for us taller folks. Also, going back to a light weight platform (no V8?) and hopefully dropping the 60 times below 4 seconds.
While it won't have to pass LOCAL emissions, it still had to be tested by a EPA/DOT shop reguardless of where it's sold. They won't let it in the country for street use without passing several credentials (read: Redtape). Now racing is another story.. but they have funky laws on that too. Ever read the story about the Ferrari F50 that someone was trying to import? What a nightmare! Like 5 months of waiting. They did the coke can test... if they could roll a can of coke under the car, then it wasn't a race car (not low enough)

Like MM said....the chasis is an epoxy bonded aluminum alloy with a lightweight steel rollbar and subframe. I believe its about 1800cc which is equal to about 4 cylinders that pumps out a mere 120bhp with 168 lbs/ft of torque. It has a double wishbone suspension with Bilstein dampers. It does 0-62 in about 5.7 seconds and 0-100 in about 16.5 seconds. Its max speed is 126MPH. They weigh only 1500 pounds though and with excessive after-market ad on's you have a car you likely don't want to fuck with at all. Hope this helps.
