We lost our old favorite bunny rabbit. He died in his sleep Saturday night. Technically he belonged to my oldest daughter Jaimie, but he was a house rabbit and entertained us all. He used to live in a great big barn I built out back for the rabbit menagerie, but as he got older we let him stay inside ... especially since he liked to rumble with the younger ones. He had his litter box and just had free run of the house. Three pound little tiny Holland Lop and he was just cute and funny as hell. Spent most of his time on the brick hearth in front of the fire place and would do a little dance every evening at exactly 9:15 when he wanted his nightly salad of carrots and greens.
He was old (9 yrs) for a rabbit and had a great life, but damn we miss that little fella. Buried him under a giant live oak out in the back. I cried like a baby. Still sad. Amazing how one can get so attached to a family pet.
Saturday night, two of our best friends from SA knocked on the front door at about 11:30. They tried to call many times, but my little teenage cheerleader was on the phone from about 5:30 to midnight.
They brought their lab (which had cancer) up to be put to sleep. Many tears shed. Most unhappy.
Sorry to hear about your loss Eric. It is very easy to grow attached to little critters like that, Im still not over losing my pooch Bo and that was 3 years ago.
Sorry to hear about your rabbit, Eric. We had to put our dog Annie down Friday so I know exactly how you feel. Had her for 14 years. Man, I had no idea it would be that tough.
It's really is amazing how attached we get to our pets. Especially the ones that were around a long time.
Bon Voyage to our Annie and your little Holland Lop..

Awww ... geez, sorry about Annie Paul. Man I just met her and she was a great little pooch. It's bad. It feels almost like losing family. Especially when you see how it tears up your kids.
I had a little Manx (rabbit tailed) cat. For ten years that cat was my buddy and spent EVERY night curled up at the end of the bed. She stopped eating. Took her to the vet where he diagnosed her with kidney failure. I took her home and made the decision to put her to sleep in the morning. I have never been so emotionally wrecked.
After, I would see her in the house, before my mind could tell me she wasn't there. I got another cat just so I wouldn't go nuts. It worked. (That is, I didn't go nuts.)
Losing a family pet is very much like losing a family member. The past year we lost our protector too.
Many tears are still shed in this house. Sorry for your loss.
Losing a family pet is always hard. Eric, sorry to hear about your loss. I lost a cat early last year to feline lukemia. Several months before that I had to put a dog I had since I was 15 to sleep as well. Each time was painful, and definitely felt like losing a family member and best friend.
