The dude can't stay up there forever and hold up traffic.

Tell the prick to jump. Why must we spend so much resources to try to save his life?

Someone needs to shoot him in the head and make an example out of him. Have the local skeet trap shooting group line up and as he falls yell "PULL".

It's a construction site right?
Just have the construction workers build a 10 foot high fence with razor wire on top
around the base of the crane and then station one officer in a position where the crane can be watched but outside of the range of falling debris. If he jumps then fine, if he comes down then start feeding him and hold him there until after the trial.
