Toe fractures in general are treated with taping or any means to keep it lined up with the other toes. A hard soled sandal helps to prevent you from bending it when you walk. Toes usually take 3-4 weeks to settle down, 6-8 weeks to be done healing.
If you broke the bone the the toe is connected to (metatarsal), you may want to have it xrayed to see if it needs pinning, but most don't. Just mash on each bone and see where most of the pain is.
If you happen to get an xray, post it.
