Anybody know anything about Jeeps? I'm looking to get a cool Jeep to cruise around in for open top driving. Any dealers to look at? Any models or options to look at? Rubicon worth the money? How about the special-ed Sahara?
We looked at a new Unlimited today that was nice. 24k plus ttt.
What about wheels, lift kits, etc.? I really like the MT wheels that are similar to Alcoas but they have a beadlock (fake) and 33x12.50-15 BFG tires.
Go with an "X" and get an aftermarket lift and wheels. There is nothing you can't do to a Jeep with aftermartket parts. The Rubicon is nice, but not for the $$$. You can do it cheaper yourself and have a better Jeep.
As for the Sahara Limited Edition, your paying big bucks jst for the special emblem and paint. If you are actually taking it off road, why blow the money on stupid creature comfort BS?
In this case I will definitely be a poseur. Just looking for something halfway cool to drive around on nice days, to the beach, etc. Probably never see sand unless the beach is windy.
I was thinking the same thing about the Sahara. No way it will be collectible at 1000 copies, right?
I have a Sahara and am pretty happy with it. If the rubicon were out when I bought my jeep, I think I would have bought that. The good thing about the Sahara is that it comes standard with the dana 44 rear. If you get the X, you have to pay extra for it. The Rubicon has a dana 44 in the front and the rear which I would have liked to have.
As for lift, I have been happy with my Rubicon Express lift. Check them out at www.rubiconexpress.com I would like to upgrade to the long arm lift a little down the road. There is also a kit available that replaces teh springs with air bags that allow you to raise and lower the jeep by 8 inches in each direction for a total of 16 inches. You can do this independantly for each wheel which is great for side slopes or steep inclines.
Look on ebay. If you looking for something to cruise the shoreline with, buy a beater. It's got personality. Jeeps can take a beating and are very inexpensive to fix/customize. You can easily get 200K miles outta one.
Leaf is dead-on there. I own a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, and it has over 190,000 miles on it. Drives like the day I bought it, no repairs except the wiper motor.
If you are wanting the Wrangler and are not planning to go fourwheeling with it, then dont waste your money on the Rubicon. But you do want one with the 6-cyl in it. Everyone is right, the 4-banger can hardly get out of its own way, much less with larger tires. My friend has a '00 4-cyl with a 2" lift and 33" Mud Terrains. It does look good, but has no power.
I would suggest a Skyjacker lift kit...preferrably the 4" kit if you are just going to cruise around with it. All-Terrain's will last longer on the street, but Mud-Terrains will look better.
www.4wheelparts.com is a good site for lifts, tires, and wheels. Although there are ump-teen millions of jeep parts available from thousands of aftermarket companies
Don't forget that with the 6 cyl, you can either add a kennebell supercharger or a cartech turbo kit. The kennebell SC is a nice set-up. you'll want one of those... assuming that you aren't going to turn this into an 8 sec drag car...
