Gas Prices

I heard on the radio yesterday that gas prices will probably rise $.25/gallon at the pumps very shortly. I think premium gas is already about $2.20 where I am, so I guess I look forward to paying close to $2.50 a gallon soon. Both my daily driver and my Viper require premium fuel 91 or above. This is fuckin' bullshit except the fact that our gas prices are still much lower than in other countries.

Re: Gas Prices

I personally think gas is cheap and as long as it doesn't affect general driving habits it is probably underpriced. A gallon of milk, heck, a gallon of bottled water cost more. How much more fun can you get out of $2.50? Probably at $5 to $6 dollars a gallon is where I'd start being deterred from driving as much. Until then I'll just be driving the Viper and the H1 (gas powered version) pretty much as I like. Beyond that I can see a Prius in my future.

Re: Gas Prices

Same here, all vehicles require 91 or above. And my daily driver only gets 12mpg. $50 dollars a fill and it lasts me 3, sometimes 4 days.

And that bottled water argument well, just....DOESN'T HOLD WATER! I dont drink 30 gallons of bottled Naya every 4 days.

High gas prices are good for Texas, natural gas follows oil as prices rise.

Most of my clients are oilfield service, upstream E&P, or downstream refining. So, when I pay at the pump, I don't complain.

Our Houston office almost entirely focuses on customs taxes for petroleum companies. We probably work for 90% of the majors.

What in the hell happened to Diesel? I remember when it was cheaper than Supreme. Now it is normally 5-10 cents more per gallon.

It's winter. It has the same parameters (from a manufacturing perspective) as home heating oil. Once winter is over, it will flip back.

Re: Gas Prices

Let me restate that, the Houston office of our customs practice focuses on customs taxes for petroleum companies. Although much of the same can be said for the rest of the practice groups in our office here--we have a heavy, heavy energy focus. In fact, we just "rebranded" one of our floors to be the "Energy Center," with the goal of presenting all kinds of tax planning as an integrated whole.

And, if you own options for your employer, I say the odds of doubling your AGI and taxes are pretty good this year. Stock prices have shot up 50% in a few months.
