Since I received the MINI in the post, I have been using it almost daily. The earphone they send with it are painful, at best, useless usually. I looked at another type that Apple sells, but that too had problems. After talking to Getbit, I decided to order a set of Bang & Olfsen A8 Headphones. These should be in next week.
The mini really needed a case for it, after what others here at work have told me. Two of them have dropped them , and have suffered failures. I did have one issue when the circular control stuck down one one side. Easy fix to perform for myself. I have a soft-sided case by body glove that covers the face of it and will strap to my arms. In my recent travels to Texas, I used it on the plane with great success, even to the point of leaving it on under my shirt and listening to it while walking in the Cincinnati Airport.
Weight is fairly light, and it's size comfortable to carry. The controls are a tad sensitive, but easily adaptable. It will hold a charge for a week if not used. Constant use will drain it in 1.5 days. This may change after a year of use.
The ITUNES software is easy to use and adapts well. It takes up no space on the HD of a laptop, but the content will. I had to remove the system from the work laptop, but will be reinstalling it on the home one. Currently I have 8 gig of songs on my desktop at work to pull from and an additional 700 gig on a remote server.
The unit I won was engraved on the back, (nice touch Mike). :thumb: :thumb: It did surprise me, the store locally to Mike did not have one in silver, so when asked by PJ if I mind the wait, they shipped it from China. I pm'ed Mike with this, he seems surprised as well.
The unit has 3.85 gig of songs on it currently, stored in MP3 format. There is a small amount of overhead, but for the most part, the entire 4 gig is available to download to.

Do any of the MP3 players utalize flash memory cards?
I currently own the 20 gb Ipod. And I'm having hard drive issues. The thing locks up and I have to let it run the batteries down in order to re-boot the HD.
I was at Best Buy the other day and they had a few $179 versions for sale - I was told that they are the ones being "phased out" in favor of the new models. They have a 6gb iPod now in addition to the 4gb.

I think the new colors indicate the improved iPod mini with up to 18 hours of battery life, lower price and a 6 Gb version. There's blue, pink, green and silver.
Just ordered a new blue one - should be shipping 3/4... thanks for the info - I'll be getting some different headphones / earbuds, but may want excellent noise cancellation technology for travel....
