California schools are forbidden from telling parents when their kids leave class to seek “confidential medical treatment” — including drug counseling and even abortion, according to the state attorney general’s office.
While schools must notify parents of the "Student Confidentiality Policy" at the start of each academic year, the reality is that eighth-graders could end a pregnancy, get an AIDS test or seek treatment for addiction during the school day without their knowledge or consent.
The rule is a shift from previous protocol that encouraged privacy for kids in California public schools but didn’t mandate it. Now, it’s a state law.
State Attorney Gen. Bill Lockyer, a Democrat, said the legislation was meant for the small number of children coping with rape or incest who probably wouldn’t be able to talk to a parent but need some way to seek help.
I can't believe even a soft-Republican like Arnold would let this stand...
In an editorial in our paper last week from one of the staff writers, they were accusing him of being a closet Dem because of the statement he made about the right wingers moving a little more to the middle and wanting the two parties to work more closely together and bridge the gap.
Few understand the concept but legally a child is a ward of the State
property of the State as it were
and parents are afforded guardianship over their kids
but really do not own them.
I'm not saying it is right or it is wrong
but ultimately the state determines what is acceptable for children not parents.
And ultimately the State, be it Republican run or Democrat run, will enact laws
that protect the weakest kids in the sorriest of circumstances since basically that is their obligation as protectors of their wards to do so.
I can see why the State would create such laws
I can also see why decent parents who do a good job of raising their kids
would feel offended by such laws.

Where do you liberals come up with shit. Since, when does a child belong to the state. No wonder the U.S. so Fucked up. How about the liabilities of the parents of the child, is the state also taking all the liability of the children.
