I've had several inquiries asking me what "real world" means and how does someone know they've crossed the line. This is like asking me to define racism. So, I put it to you - how do we define a "real world" threshold when dealing with posts?
how about anything that effects your day-to0day, personal or financial well being. IE anything not on the board that YOU have voluntarily offered up for discussion or debate.
Confidential private or public information that is collected by searching for it or the information was given freely (anywhere) with the intent to do harm. These actions would have to involve Viperalley as part of the attack.
It may also include malicious action taken from posted information as long as the intent to do real life harm is evident.
Also attacks on a poster with false real world type of information without backing it up with facts.
My perception of "real world" involvement is anything that can be perceived as a threat either to a persons physical or financial well-being. Posting trash-talk on the internet won't usually have any effects on someones personal life, but threatening to, or engaging in activities off the board (or posting information that can give someone else the ability to do so) that can have a real life impact on a member is where I would consider the line to be crossed.
If you post questionable personal information about yourself on a forum that is well-known for its ruthlessness then you should expect to take a beating, but you also have to be able to discern between harmless insults and mean-spirited attacks. Even today I thought that the least offended person in that entire thread was Emilie, and she was the brunt of most of the smack! There are way too many knights in shining armor around here that need to just keep their mouths shut unless they feel personally threatened in a real-world manner. Either that or join in the smack, keeping in mind that in the end it's all just words on a screen and 99% of the time bears no ill-will.
I laugh almost every day at some members that get their panties in a wad over some one-liner that was cracked about their posts, or a stereotypical jab at their job or education. Even some of the ethnic takes are hilarious, and any normal person with a sense of humor will laugh at themselves if the crack is good enough.
Blatant racism and real-world interference should not be tolerated, and from what I've seen the mods do a great job of keeping some of the questionable posts in check. Today was just another classic example of the closet anarchists seizing an opportunity to pounce.
I consider myself to be fairly thick-skinned, and will usually laugh my ass off if someone nails me to the cross (sorry Nate, it's just a figure of speech). In the past if I've actually had a problem with a post I've simply PMd the person and said "hey man, it's all good but I think you crossed the line". I don't even care if they go back and edit the post, I just want them to know how I feel. Of course, not long after that they usually make their way into the leading role of one of my stories and the problem goes away on its own.
Common sense and a good sense of humor is all you need to survive around here. Don't forget, people, you always have the option to leave, or simply stay out of the AG section. Don't claim to be thick-skinned and then cry foul when you get a little paper cut between your fingers.
ISo, I put it to you - how do we define a "real world" threshold when dealing with posts?
Anything that involves a bunch of kids from random environments living together in a house in a hip city and with cameras everywhere is immediate grounds for banning.
I cant believe there are really that many people who dont "get this concept". It seems there are some fucktards here that think that "getting their feelings hurt" is the same as experiencing "real world intervetion". Real world intervention is far worse than ANY OTHER type of violation here. It has actual implications that may affect someones personal life (Financial, family, security, etc). Other than stating the obvious, real world is a concept that is impossible to define using a blanket defintion. One thing that may be "real world" for one person may not bother another person whatsoever. Take "fast freddy" for example. The fucker posted his own DRIVERS LICENSE on the internet. 99% of everyone else would call that real world intervention if it made it up on the board. Some guys here mind if their last name is posted others couldnt give two shits. Its discretional and is going to vary from case to case. You just cant define it, and thats why we have moderators. IMO most of the time ..... ITS VERY CLEAR what is and is not real world. Its not rocket science its common sense. Now after that, if the Beta Males and Beta Females here cant figure it out, tell them to jump off a cliff and end themselves now. They are so Goddamned pathetic and idiotic that they dont deserve to consume any more air.

I agree with Smokin in that anyone with common sense can understand what the "real word" is and the related implications it encompasses.
Interestingly, Emilie's first post was not deleted although I would think that was pretty "real world" especially when there's allegations of Smokin kickin' somebody in the head and the posting of a private AIM conversation. However, I didn't see him having a cow and immediately removing it although I'm sure that he would be justified in doing that under the rules if he wanted to.
To those that have a beef with the mods, what are your specific concerns? Is it the definition of "real world" or is it the lack of consistency with the enforcement of the rules, (I'm not saying that there IS an inconsistent application of the rules, just that I think that may be an issue with some), or what?
The general rule that seems to work well, is don't bring up things that the thrAshee didn't dislcose, or which are otherwise well-known, ie., if some dude posts of pic of his gal on the hood of his car looking for props, and she is a fat pig, referencing her fatness in a funny manner is fair game. Likewise, someone whines about how his/her co-workers were mean to him/her at work, that is in play. Finally, there is the "Too Freaking Funny to Be Deleted Rule" - this states that if a post is piss-your-pants-funny, any doubt about rules violations should be overlooked. Posts referring to personal appearance at a private group function, the appearance of someone you picked up in a bar while drunk in an offline setting, and anything that might have to do with Smokie's ex-gal's post at a later date after the drama has subsided will likely fall under this rule.
Seems that in general there is a feeling of "we know it when we see it" and I'm okay with that. Like some of the other grey areas, alot depends on a consensus. While intent is an important factor, there may also be times when someone might post something that members are "uncomfortable" with having out there (pulling links for Red5 comes to mind).
We'll do our best to make the right choices and hopefully common sense will make it easy.

YOu mean like trying nail a 19 year old hottie with cash? (And even then you can't get ass) Is that real world? Or was that just fake and made up. Then crying foul when the real world came a - knockin'?

No whats more in line of what is acceptable is me taking this opportunity to point out that you dont have the intelligence quotient to look into a post, and derive more than one concept at a time. Youre like the idiot ape around here that forgets to wipe his ass and gets dingleberry droppings dribbling down his leg because he got sidetracked by the kid waiving a banana through the cage bars. BTW heres a thought that should keep your pathetic mind consumed for the rest of the day...if it was so "real world", why the fuck is that thread still up? idiot.
