President Bush and his allies have insisted that violence in Iraq is limited to a few isolated pockets of resistance. President Bush said last Wednesday that there are a "handful of people who are willing to kill in order to stop the process."1 The next day, Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi told reporters at a press conference in the Rose Garden "there is nothing, no problem, except on a small pocket in Fallujah."2 Information in a secret report compiled for the administration suggests that Bush and Allawi are misleading the public about the scope of violence in Iraq.
According to data collected by Kroll Security International for the administration, there are about 70 attacks a day on U.S. and coalition forces, compared to 40-50 attacks a day before the transfer of authority to the interim Iraqi government.3 Moreover, the data indicate attacks in "nearly every major city in central, western and northern Iraq."4 Allawi, in a speech to Congress last Tuesday, described Baghdad as "very good and safe."5 But the Kroll data reveal that, in recent weeks, there have been an average of 22 attacks per day on troops in Baghdad.6

Judging by the increase in the number of attacks and the frequency of hostage taking recently, it appears to be less safe than before the transfer of power which I believe took place in June.

Mike are you saying that we should not have transfered power??
Mike are you saying that we should not have transfered power??
That's not at all what I'm saying. What I am saying relates to my original post in this thread, that Bush and Allawi are bullshitting us when they minimize the degree of violence going on in Iraq in order to make the situation look far better than it actually is. They try to make it sound like the violence are only isolated incidents while the numbers prove otherwise.
When you take the number of people in Iraq - compared to the goof balls that want to destroy us - that represents a small portion... And things are improving - the things you didn't mention at all - voting, electricity, schools, water, etc...
Your CNN talking points have a lot to to be desired...
But, on your same point - imagine the European news if they listed our 300 killings a day across America... Ohhhhh, the horor...! Run.......run.......run........

Well it's not a safe place that is for sure, is it as bad as the news would like us to believe I don't think so (if it bleeds it leads) I have friends there and get e-mails once or twice a week (not military, contractors) mostly they do not have security. From what I am being told it is more like Central & South America you have to be careful where you go and when they worry more about being taken for money than for political reasons.
It's not a safe place because of...FOREIGN ARAB TERRORISTS that are constantly filtering into the country, not the Iraqi's. When the al-queda terrorists fail in Iraq and Iraq becomes a free country the rest of the oppressive Islamic countries will begin to fall to freedom. The terrorists know this and so does IRAN. This is the first step in tearing down these dictator run countries.
Forget the fact that the majority of Iraq has held local elections and are freely running on their own. The only news the major media is going to report is the violence to paint a choatic picture in your minds. As long as they refuse to show how the rest of the country is doing and only focus on Fallujah and Sadr City then you will continue to think we are failing.
The template for the major media is run the story if it hurts Bush and HIDE the story if it helps Bush.
When fighting an enemy the enemy does try to attack and kill you. Up until World War I and II there less people dying compared to after the wars started.
What is your point? Are you arguing for the terrorists or against the terrorists? Are you saying we shoudln't expect terrorists to attack? Would you rather the terrorists flee to Iraq to engage our soldiers or do you prefer bombs in our city. Terrorists started this years ago and regardless of your wallet or your own safety within your backyard they will bring it here and to you if we stand idle. You don't see them as a threat some of us do.
