Working from home

Does anyone here work FULL TIME from home?

Anyone have any pointers in spicing up your time while working? I mean, it seems to be just getting tooooooo boring. One bedroom is converted into an office that I use. I don't have a big house (actually very small) so it seems like the walls are closing in. I thought that having a WiFi all around the house with 3 laptops would help, but it didn't....

Anyone work from home ? And Chuck w/ 2 vipers. I'm speaking of WORK. Flipping thru porn channels all day and night is NOT work. :thumb:

Re: Working from home

I can't work from home. I tried it and realized its real hard to get anything done with the distractions of home life. It makes it too easy for me to go downstairs and blow an hour playing with my son or taking the family out to lunch. I find myself telling my wife to just pretend that I'm not here after the fourth time of her yelling up the stairs telling me to look whats on "Dr Phil". Every time I hear my son scream I go down there to see whats up, and usually its nothing.

Working from home is great for some people, but for me its a pain in the ass.

Blowing a couple hours a day here at the alley is a good way to occupy your time.

Re: Working from home

I love working from home but not everyone can pull it off. At first the work from home thing is a dream but you quickly realize some days you don't even really get dressed, and the interaction with others is only on the phone or computer. Gets old real fast. You have to be really self disaplined to be able to work from home and actually work, its too easy to get distracted into other things and put work off until later. I do most of my work overnight when the house is quiet and the world is pretty much shut down, nothing on TV to watch and that works for me. Another downside to working at home is most people escape work when they go home and you can't do that. I don't punch a time clock and often find myself pulling 60-80 hours some weeks where I wouldn't do that otherwise. Of course I get the trade off of taking a week off whenever I want to as well.

As far as being boring I make myself go out everyday and do something to interact with other people.. Kinda hard here in SA where I don't know anyone but then this job I am doing I'll actually have to go into the office a few times a week. Its gonna be interesting because I've worked from home for the last 4 years and I'm not used to that.

Yep, I work from home. It started out pretty tough. I still find myself having the occasional focus problem. My biggest problem is setting/keeping my office times.

Re: Working from home

I use to work outta my house when I was a local adjuster. Working from home kicks ass. I had a TV, full stereo system, dvd, playstation and everything in the office. It was awesome!!

Just think of being stuck in an office ALL day and that should be enough for you to figure out you have it good working at home!

Re: Working from home

unless the office is home. Working at home ROCKS no question but it kinda sucks when you realize you've been working from 8am-2am and only really stopped to make dinner, throw a load in the washer and walk the dog.

I do and the only thing about it is you HAVE to have a real disciplined work ethic, There are to many things to distract a person from working.

Re: Working from home

I've been doing it for about 8 years, running my own business. It's not the focus part... It's the part that I HAVE to get out, but nowhere to go at 3 or 4!! Days just seem to run into one another... A Saturday feels like a Monday and a Monday feels like a Sauryday...

Man, I have problems..

How can a Monday feel like a Saturday, their ain't no good cartoons on in the morning

The lack of social interaction is definitely the toughest part. Too bad there aren't any hotties at the bank or I'd be making deposits every day :thumb:
