What do you think happens to a person when they die? Is it the end? Do they come back as something else? Does their soul go to heaven (or hell) and consciousness is taken to a new plane?
I don't know where you go but I can tell you that looking into the eyes of a dead person it is like there is no soul and the body is a discarded shell.
Where's Nohsreg? He can give us comparative religious concepts of the afterlife 101. He already explained the Jewish concept--which was fascinating--in an earlier thread.
I go to heaven, to drive on miles and miles of asphalt and come into the pits to the waiting arms of a dozen, adoring, large-breasted, barely legal girls.

The rest of you are going to hell.
Bullshit, you are going to hell and the Devil is a cop!
Allah will give me 72 virgins, that's 216 fresh orifices
.
With all those Muslim virgins, if you put them all together, you'll be lucky to get three full sets of rotten teeth!
My gana (Dutch for grandmother) was dying in the hospital. The doctor told us she wouldn't last the night so we all stayed at the hospital. My dad and his two sisters and one of my cousins were all in the room when she took her last breath. The nurse got the doctor and he pronounced her dead at which point we all started crying and hugging.
I don't remember the official time, but about 30-45 seconds later she opened her eyes and inhaled an extremely deep breath. It was the freakiest thing I've ever experienced.
Long story short, she lived for another 3 months (my cousin was 9 months pregnant at the time and we figure she wanted to be around for the babies birth).
I asked her what happened during those 45 seconds and she said she remembered nothing. No light, no spirits, no nothing. I know it's still speculative, as I'm sure it would be tough to remember anything when your brain isn't working, but I had to ask her anyway.
There's no point to this story, it just fit with the thread. Personally, I don't believe in the afterlife, but I certainly don't fault people that do.
As someone who has technically been "dead" twice already, I don't remember shit, other than this high ringing kind of sound. It's like if you get hit real hard in the head...you have that ringing feeling in your ears, but slightly different (no pain). Almost metallic.
I drown when I was young, but was revived after a little over minute under the water. I was also was electrocuted, where my heart was stopped for over 2 minutes.

Geeze MM, of everyone on the Alley, who would have ever figured?
My Mom (that raised me not made me) has a serious heart condition and has technically died 9 times. There is no reason she should be here right now short of calling it a miracle.
She says one of the times she was actually pronounced and the time called and she could see everything happening around her. Whats freaky is that she recounted everything she saw and thats what was actually going on. She couldn't hear much because of a buzzing sound.
After hearing what she said I'm not sure what to believe.
