Boots , gloves , pants , chest protector, elbow and arm protectors , knee pads under the pants , Helmet, goggles ect.... all make for a safe fall. He weighs all of 40 lbs., and goes well for a 5 year old. [image]http://www.viperalley.com/attach/data/1/389048-PW_Mason_019.jpg[/image]

It's great that you have this to do with your kid. I ride with my 2 boys, 13&15, every week for a couple of hours. Spending time with him is the most important thing you can do. They really grow up fast. He'll be taking doubles before you know it!

what a cutie.
Shill, with the proper saftey equiptment racing a motorcycle isn't really that much more dangerous than any other type of racing. Sure maybe a few more broken bones but my son considers those badges. If he ever got seriously injured I might change my tune though.
I'm much more concerned about the crotch rocket my kid thinks he's getting when he turns 16 than I am him on his dirt bike.

My son loves it and has been riding since he was 1 yr. old ,(elec. bike W/training wheels). I think they are much less likely to get hurt if they learn to ride the correct way early and learn with full gear from the start. I agree. If they learn that safety gear is a part of riding, there's less of a chance that they will go and do something stupid with no helmet on later, when you're not around. 1 yr old and riding. I wish I would have started that early.

Bad ass, I started riding around that age and it's a great hobby to have growing up. Yes he will get hurt, if he starts racing be ready for a few broken arms, collar bones and usual little stuff. But it's all part of the game, Good luck to the little guy. Oh and if you do anything buy him a bad ass helmet and the best boots you can find (Shoei and Alpinestar Tech 8's) the boots have saved many broken ankles.

That is very cool viper spray! I started racing when I was ten and motocross is one of the best family sports. I would encourage you to go buy him a neck ring however. The majority of collar bone breaks are due to collisions with the helmet and collar bone. You might also want to look into getting one for yourself. I was sponsored by progressive motorcycle safety a few years back and they make an awesome collar. You might also check out an old xr75 for him and get him started with vintage mx as soon as possible!
