As, we were coming back from the cruise tonight, we saw this new construction. All the previous framing had been wood in this subdivision, but this one is all metal. Is this common where you live? Our first time seeing it in our area.

Steel construction is becomming more popular but prices can vary greatly depending on the price of iron. Heck how nice would it be to have a house that for all intensive purposes couldn't burn down.

It would be real nice, too bad steel studs won't do anything to prevent it.

Same here in Hawaii. Lots of new homes are made with steel.

We're building a new warehouse and it's framed with steel. It's pretty expensive, but the way to go.

Steel may not burn, but it transfers heat well, and can melt/soften. Also as preiviously noted, wallboard and furnishing can burn

Usually less expensive than wood since the prices have jumped. And not to mention it leaves a great house skeleton in case the place burns down.

steel sucks...it isnt nearly as sturdy as wood. Makes hanging pictures, cabinets, etc difficult. If the steel starts rusting, it will leave rust prints on the drywall. After time...you can slam a door in 1 room and the walls will shake in another room. Steel is only good for warehouses and such. I would NEVER want my house to be made out of steel.

Concrete block is the most popular choice in Florida.
